Skip to comments.Arizona’s McCain: Execution was torture
Posted on 07/25/2014 6:00:19 PM PDT by Olog-hai
U.S. Sen. John McCain says the execution of an Arizona inmate that lasted two hours was torture.
The Republican who represents the conservative state told Politico that he supports capital punishment for certain crimes but felt Wednesdays execution of Joseph Rudolph Wood was a bollocks-upped situation.
The execution has renewed debate about the death penalty. But Arizona lawmakers say the debate is not likely to have an impact on practices in the state.

Just shut up, John.
I despise that senile old bastard.
Yup...he is wrong on just about everything
If this is “torture” where the doctors said the crook was asleep and couldn’t feel a thing
Then what was your treatment at Hanoi Hilton, Senator?
Juan, you ignorant slut.
Could someone please put him out of his misery?! I am just saying get him away from any semblance of a microphone, the press, personal appearance...anyplace where ANYBODY can hear him opine.
He is giving Biden a close race for dunce of the century!
Why can’t somebody just say, “S**t happens...”
Every time McLame speaks, it’s torture. An old retired cop tweaked the nose of a liberal at the local dog park today with this story. He sucked her in by asking about the sad tale of the two hour execution and as soon as she started in feeling sorry for the killer he said “Him?, Screw him he killed two people, he didn’t suffer half enough!” I thought the lib was going to have a coronary.
Time for the old politicians home for him.
Wood and his 29-year-old ex-girlfriend, Debbie Dietz, had been involved in a turbulent relationship for 5 years, which had been marred by numerous breakups and several domestic violent incidents. Debbie was working at a local body shop owned by her family. On August 7, 1989, Wood walked into the shop and shot Gene Dietz, age 55, in the chest with a .38 caliber revolver, killing him. Gene Dietz's 70-year-old brother was present and tried to stop Wood, but Wood pushed him away and proceeded into another section of the body shop. Wood went up to Debbie, placed her in some type of hold, and shot her once in the abdomen and once in the chest, killing her. Wood then fled the building. Two police officers approached Wood and ordered him to drop his weapon. After Wood placed the weapon on the ground, he reached down and picked it up, and pointed it at the officers. The officers fired, striking Wood several times. Wood was transported to a local hospital where he underwent extensive surgery.

State v. Wood, 180 Ariz. 53, 881 P.2d 1158 (1994).
I don’t care Senator.
Now THAT is a Hero!
I think it was botched. I don’t really want to torture even the guilty. I just want them cleanly executed. My solution? A heavy sedative, and then a heroin overdose. Simple, and effective. Done and gone! Shoulda been done to Manson many years ago. Do it quick and clean. Just get rid of them!
Just how the hell do such losers as Obama, who never held a real job in his life and McCain, who almost sank an aircraft carrier, manage to get so far in life?
No what the victims and the familys went though was torture silly old man
Easy solution: Just put a CPAP ventilator on the next execution and charge it to their Obamacare.
Thank you for sharing that with us Johnny now finish your Jello and go back to your nap.
You have to realize they progressed in the political system, not private industry.
And other than McLame’s brief stint peddling beer for his Father-in-law, I don’t think either one had a job outside of govt.
Hey AZ, are you going to keep this nut in office?
You can stop the torture by resigning ASAP. Please do it quickly cause we can’t take anymore of you.
Take gramnesty with you.
They probably will.
.........I think the Vietnamese Viet Cong shot in the head by the Army Captain was pretty effective..............
According to Michael Schiavo and George Felos (remember them?), death by starvation and dehydration is blissful, even euphoric.
Let’s switch criminals over to that method. Worked for the Nazis, the Soviets, the Communist Chinese...
Is there anything mccain doesn’t have a comment on? That’s right, no comment on his picture taken of him and Isis terrorist.
I would like to see thar women and man whose father and sister she found murder, confront this man.
He is the perfect example of incumbents being protected from a challenger. McCain has a 30% approval rating in Az. I’d shut up for a while if people thought that little of me.
its getting so that drama is no longer involved.
when the state takes a life, its not euthanasia.
it should be done like an execution, not like anesthesia.
A bullet to the head always works. We need to stop “botching” these executions and start getting them over as quickly as possible. A bullet to the brain ALWAYS works. No chance of a “botch” there.
Or one hour chained down in a locked, secure room with the strongest members of the victims’ families given the same weapons that he used in his victims.
If he walks out alive after an hour, a pardon is issued.
That's what they did:
"a lethal injection with a combination of the sedative midazolam and the painkiller hydromorphone."
A caller on the Andrew Wilkow show had a good suggestion. Let the condemned chose his choice of death. Hanging, bullet, lethal injection,...
He needs to leave this country. The dirtbag was a murderer. he was sentenced to death and he died.
I guess you've never seen the "Songbird" video in which fellow POWs accuse him of being a traitor and coward, and not a hero. Anytime I post it, I am besieged by FReepers defending this scumbag. I don't get it. I guess they worked on his 2008 campaign.
He seems to me to be another John Kerry.”
excellent thought. I’m tired of people continuing to give him credit and respect for his “service”. Screw that. What he’s done as a senator more than erases any “hero” BS!
Well the guy died so I’m calling it a success.
I don’t call snoring .. torture .. but then again, John should know what torture is, or was, or maybe he can’t remember anymore.
I believe this was a ruse .. a plan to get the capital punishment on the table so that it could be abolished.
This drug combination has been tried before at another prison - unsuccessfully - so why was AZ trying it ..??
While I agree with him on this (rare for me) you are correct. He was not a hero. He sold out our POWs and, single-handedly, convinced the U.S. Govt to not go after them once we left Vietnam.
There is a LOT of info on that out there that the MSM never reports.
Not gonna repost it as I have said it alot, but this former Prosecutor is 100% against the death penalty.
The death penalty is a necessary deterrent and prescribed by the Bible, remember. Continuing to feed the guilty for life on the taxpayer’s dime and sustaining an environment that encourages homosexuality is less merciful for both the convict and the public.
Did you hear the one about the young Navy pilot who did a wet start on a carrier and killed two other pilots plus deck crewman. How about the one were the young Navy pilot was so poor at flying that he kept losing aircraft. How about the one were this young pilot was never to answer for his crimes as his daddy was a Admiral. Or about how his wing boss was happy when he was shot down because he would loss no more aircraft and the ship would be safe. O the stories I could tell you!
He should have been in the stockade and not the Senate.
The guy was sent to his death because he is/was a cold blooded murderer. Think of the survivors, John McCain and what they must be having to deal with. End of story. ( or maybe the ole saying what goes around comes around/saying that he was tortured, Mr. McCain. I wouldn’t even go there/ because the guy started his path towards all self destruction)
We have FReepers whose thought processes, in my estimation lead us to our problem as Conservatives. We wonder why the RINO/GOPe candidates get re-elected ad infinitum, then we read here all those who defend the likes of Cochran, Roberts, Urine Hatch, indeed all the septuagenarians who continue to hang around the Senate like aging, stupid, do-nothing vultures, to be lauded by some FReepers. For peet's sake, I had a FReeper tell me that he (she?) thought that they "owed" Pat Roberts a "debt if gratitude" for being in the Senate for so long! The RATs must love reading that kind of commentary. John Wayne was right: "Life is tough, and it's tougher if you're stupid."
There goes Juan McCain...reaching across the aisle again!
Then they didn’t use enough!
