U.S. Sen. John McCain says the execution of an Arizona inmate that lasted two hours was torture.

The Republican who represents the conservative state told Politico that he supports capital punishment for certain crimes but felt Wednesday’s execution of Joseph Rudolph Wood was a “bollocks-upped situation.”

The execution has renewed debate about the death penalty. But Arizona lawmakers say the debate is not likely to have an impact on practices in the state. …

I don’t call snoring .. torture .. but then again, John should know what torture is, or was, or maybe he can’t remember anymore.

I believe this was a ruse .. a plan to get the capital punishment on the table so that it could be abolished.

This drug combination has been tried before at another prison - unsuccessfully - so why was AZ trying it ..??

While I agree with him on this (rare for me) you are correct. He was not a hero. He sold out our POWs and, single-handedly, convinced the U.S. Govt to not go after them once we left Vietnam.

There is a LOT of info on that out there that the MSM never reports.

Not gonna repost it as I have said it alot, but this former Prosecutor is 100% against the death penalty.

Religious reasons?

The death penalty is a necessary deterrent and prescribed by the Bible, remember. Continuing to feed the guilty for life on the taxpayer’s dime and sustaining an environment that encourages homosexuality is less merciful for both the convict and the public.

Did you hear the one about the young Navy pilot who did a wet start on a carrier and killed two other pilots plus deck crewman. How about the one were the young Navy pilot was so poor at flying that he kept losing aircraft. How about the one were this young pilot was never to answer for his crimes as his daddy was a Admiral. Or about how his wing boss was happy when he was shot down because he would loss no more aircraft and the ship would be safe. O the stories I could tell you!

He should have been in the stockade and not the Senate.

The guy was sent to his death because he is/was a cold blooded murderer. Think of the survivors, John McCain and what they must be having to deal with. End of story. ( or maybe the ole saying what goes around comes around/saying that he was tortured, Mr. McCain. I wouldn’t even go there/ because the guy started his path towards all self destruction)

“I guess you've never seen the “Songbird” video in which fellow POWs accuse him of being a traitor and coward, and not a hero. Anytime I post it, I am besieged by FReepers defending this scumbag. I don't get it. I guess they worked on his 2008 campaign. “

We have FReepers whose thought processes, in my estimation lead us to our problem as Conservatives. We wonder why the RINO/GOPe candidates get re-elected ad infinitum, then we read here all those who defend the likes of Cochran, Roberts, Urine Hatch, indeed all the septuagenarians who continue to hang around the Senate like aging, stupid, do-nothing vultures, to be lauded by some FReepers. For peet's sake, I had a FReeper tell me that he (she?) thought that they "owed" Pat Roberts a "debt if gratitude" for being in the Senate for so long! The RATs must love reading that kind of commentary. John Wayne was right: "Life is tough, and it's tougher if you're stupid."

There seems to be two McCains/McQueegs. One who served in the military and one who became a politician. Night and day difference like Jekyll and Hyde.

I fail to understand why the hypnotics are needed— but even so, given a hypnotic, the next step is simple— curare injection straight into the heart. Dead as a hammer and no doubt about it.

The problem with this is-— no one or very few would want to stick the needle in and inject it.

Ok, so then... prussic acid (not pretty however for the witnesses).

Over 150 mL/s air embolus to a major vein— absolutely fatal. After respectful inducing of sleep with a hypnotic.

Gruesome— but lot of writing on the merciful humane execution. Ironically the guillotine was invented with such in mind (horrific as it is).

Well, no one really knows if it was torture, but even assuming that it was torture doesn’t mean it was wrong.

Hang a 250cc bottle containing 50mg/cc of morphine and bolus it over 15 minutes. You go to sleep, and stop breathing. Painless and 100% effective and cheap. The reason for 50mg/cc is that is close to the maximum concentration of morphine that can be compounded and stay in solution.

I wish the local laws of the various states would allow the family members of the criminal’s victim or victims have the honor of pushing the button on the iv pump that starts the infusion. But alas, they do not.
