Nimitz has been brilliant with his leapfrogging strategy, but the Philippines cannot be bypassed. After Bataan and Corregidor and the I shall return speech, plus all the American prisoners there, we have to take the Philippines.

Ultimately, after taking the Philippines and Okinawa they will decide Formosa can be bypassed.
