Iowa Democratic Senate hopeful Bruce Braley has shaken up his campaign, parting ways with admaker Larry Grisolano and pollster Diane Feldman after Republican Joni Ernst emerged from the primary with more momentum than anticipated, three sources confirmed to POLITICO.
The mid-summer move by Braley quietly took place roughly a month ago, according to two of the sources, who asked to remain anonymous in order to speak about internal campaign maneuvers. The pair were replaced sometime in June by admaker Saul Shorr and pollster Geoff Garin, both of whom have worked on a number of Democratic Senate campaigns.
The race is one of a handful likely to decide whether Democrats retain control of the Senate this fall.
The main source of concern about Braleys performance has tended to be the candidate himself. Still, the race between Braley, a Democratic congressman whose time on the trail has been marked by unforced errors, and Ernst, a military veteran who had support from establishment and tea party factions in her primary, has become razor-close in the past few weeks...
Campaign officials declined repeated requests for comment.
After POLITICO reported the news, Garin tweeted, Politico story is old news. Ive been on Braley campaign for 5+ weeks...

Joni Ernst has been out of state on National Guard duty for two weeks but Dem Braley still a mess.
I think we have a very good shot at this seat. Joni is a pretty good candidate. Braley......not so much.
Seems like every time I turn on the radio these days, I hear an anti-Ernst adpaid for by the Senate Majority PACtelling me how she’s getting big campaign donations from those rich oil barons, the [evil] Koch brothers ... as if someone listening to conservative talk radio will be persuaded to vote for Son-of-Dungheap?
(Hairy Reed sure hates those Kochs!)
They have absolutely no new material.
