Netflix has “Step Lively” on DVD.

This is young Blue Eyes’ first top-billed movie role. I still say he needs another 10 years or so of hard living for his voice to gain the character that will make him truly great. “Step Lively” is a remake of the Marx Brothers 1938 movie “Room Service.” It should be a general rule for movie producers – Never, ever try to remake a Marx Brothers movie. For those guys the plot and story line were incidental to the comedic mayhem they created. Not so for a normal cast. This one tries to bring life to the silly plot but can’t quite pull it off. It could have been redeemed by good musical numbers but, alas, none appeared. I give “Step Lively” a full star less than Bosley Crowther, who seems to like everything about the film but Sinatra – HJS.

Well, Frank Sinatra was no Eddie Albert!
