The jury in the defamation lawsuit brought by former Gov. Jesse Ventura informed the judge Monday that they cant reach a verdict, but the judge instructed them to keep trying.
We have not reached a unanimous decision, the jury wrote in a note to U.S. District Judge Richard Kyle, who read it aloud at a noon hearing with the jury and attorneys in the courtroom.
We feel we will not come to a unanimous decision, the note said.
But Kyle told the 10 jurors to give it one more shot and asked them to resume deliberations, noting that his instructions required a unanimous verdict.
None of the jurors spoke at the hearing, and they looked grim-faced and downcast before filing out to return to the jury room.
After the jury left the courtroom, Kyle told attorneys for both sides seated at their counsel tables to stay close. This might not be a long afternoon.
Jurors have been deliberating since Tuesday afternoon, for a total of about 27 and a half hours, in the suit filed by Ventura claiming that the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle fabricated an account of a 2006 bar fight in his bestselling book, American Sniper.

Jesse must have bought one of the jurors.
Some AJ worshipping dummy on the jury just can’t let it go that Ventura is lying.
This jerks macho pride is hurt and this jury can’t decide whether someones WIDOW needs to be held accountable. I have no response but to sigh.
Someone explain something to me. It is my understanding that Kyle did not identify Ventura by name in the book. If that is true how can he possibly claim defamation? Why is this case even being heard?
I’m having this same problem. I read the book. I wouldn’t have known Kyle was talking about Boa Boi if Boa Boi hadn’t made a big stink about it.
I was thinking the same thing.
He’s a 9/11 truther, he’s openly disparaged those who fought in Iraq (and apparently got punched for it one time) and he evidently finds no problem with harassing the widow of a fallen national hero.
It doesn’t get much scummier than that. Where has his honor gone? Apparently he was a SEAL too; at some point in his life he must have had some concept of honor.
That a Navy SEAL could be so without honor boggles my mind...
In an on air interview, he later identified “scruff face” (as he referred to him in the book) as Ventura.
Did it happen as Ventura says or not? Seems everyone commenting here is basing their view on emotional perspective of who they do or do not like.
I disagree! Third class at best :)
Very fair point, but (1) the reported evidence strongly leaned against Ventura’s allegations, and (2) some of the commenters may be factoring #1 into their negative statements.
Thanks for the info. I’ll bet though more people know about it due to Ventura’s lawsuit than ever heard the on air interview
It did. But the rule in most states is that an alleged defamation occurs in every state in which that defamation is published, and the SEAL's book was a national seller. So Ventura (calling himself "Governor Jesse Ventura" in the complaint -- not joking) sued in Minnesota.

Ventura was never a Navy SEAL. He was UDT.
Because the case isn't about the "assault", but about the butt-hurt Pussy Ventura claims he received as a result of the story written about him, even though the book doesn't identify him by name.
Pussy Ventura is a resident of MN, and brought the suit in MN, thus the Minneapolis location.
I wonder if the jury is deadlocked on the issue of liability or damages.
.........I think this creep Ventura has an appeal problem anyway. As a motor is to a car the statement “what are your damages?” is to the civil legal system in the US. If there are no damages there is no case and the trial judge normally, pursuant to such a finding, throw the whole case in the garbage can.
How could “Jesse the creep” as he is known world-wide have ANY claim that Kyle destroyed his reputation? What reputation was there to destroy!
I say he loses on appeal even IF he wins in the trial court.
Next: The jury could find for him but give him zero damages. AND, the judge could throw out ANY verdict or ANY jury award. So, Jesse is a long way from spending any of Kyle’s money.
They can’t decide? There must have been an agreement to borrow some of those emptyheaded jurors who last week awarded a over $26. BILLION DOLLARS to a cigarette smoker’s widow.
