Just got this notification by e-mail months after purchasing and consuming a couple of these... :-P

Got them from Amazon. I live in California. Don't know how widely distributed they were in the US otherwise.

Anyhoo... Feeling a little queasy right now and this thread is just a courtesy heads-up for any of my fellow Freepers who would feel likewise queasy at the prospect of eating some of them. For all you snake eaters out there, never mind. :-)

What’s the big deal? Extra protein is provided at no additional charge and someone freaks out, damn sensitive westerner stomachs.

Hey, think of the high-protein content of these “infestations” of insects. Egg yolks from free-range chickens are somewhat more nutritious because of all the bugs they chased and gulped down. Taking the insects in directly does convert the rather crude and incomplete proteins in mixed nuts into a biologically superior form of what are termed “complete” amino acids, the building blocks of proteins.

Dang it. I buy that stuff for the centipedes. Nothing like feeling their little legs tickling as they slide down yer throat. If they think they're going to go for cheap fill like dung beetles they'll lose me as a customer.

Rodent Hair? Maybe not so bad. Remy might be working on a new dessert recipe.

Just relabel them “Kirkland Land-A-Lunker Bass Bait” and raise the price six bucks a can. Problem solved.

When I was a kid, my stepmom worked at the cottage cheese factory. Her job was to go in every morning at 4:30AM and scare the cockroaches off a huge vat of cheese that was 10 or 12 feet across.

She said every day when she went in to work, the vat was carpeted with a squirming mass of cockroaches. Completely carpeted it. You couldn't see the white cheese underneath. She had a rake and a scoop to rake off and scoop out the dead ones who were left behind after the ones that were still alive bugged out.

Couldn't eat cottage cheese for 40 years after that!

I was just reading about pistachios the other day... Apparently, they are the worst for insect contamination, regardless of brand: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=pistachio+insects.

We used to go to a small town to visit my grandmother. Since grandma was not very child friendly we would hang out for the minimum expected time and then walk to my aunt and uncle's place on a lake about two miles away. A creamery was on the way and when you would get the first whiff you would began to hold you breath and try to run to the other side of the smell zone.
