What is this entire thread about? You want McConnell to win over Grimes.
You are defending the idea of voting for him.
You are defending him returning to the Senate.
You are defending Mitch McConnell by saying that although he has betrayed conservatives, he still deserves our support over Grimes.
Of course you are defending him!
You are making every excuse possible to give him cover. You are ignoring all of his exposed treachery because he might, just
support a pro-life cause in the Senate.
Will he? Who knows? We can’t trust him!
Do you not get that? We don’t know what he will decide to do because he has lied so many times.
You say he is pro-life. But is he? He used to be conservative. He used to be small government. But he has not shown those aspects of his leadership in years.
How can you possibly know that he will vote pro-life in the future? How can you possibly trust him?
Conservatives have heard this argument so many times before. The particulars change, but the bottom line is that “We must support a Republican liberal, or horrors, we will get a Democrat radical!”
As Napoleon Bonaparte noted, a static defense is slow suicide. But that is all Republican liberals offer us and the United States. They will only try to slow down new outrages, they will never try to turn the tide of battle against the Democrats.
To make matters worse, they only even try to slow down the new outrages to keep their own wrinkled, pasty white bottoms in their chairs. They have no heart in the battle, because in truth, they believe much of what the Democrats want.
They are like the pro-slavery Whigs, who supported slavery because it was “good for business”, and business is all they cared about. And they are like the Coolidge Republicans who agreed with his statement that “The business of America is business”, who became the Hoover Republicans, who cared only to restore business while the public was starving.
And when Eisenhower ascended the throne, they were the “Country Club Republicans”, who were comfortable in being the minority party, as long as the Democrats would throw them and their people the occasional bone.
Finally, Goldwater stood up against them as a populist, so the Country Club Republicans did everything they could to undermine him. By their lights, Goldwater was horrible because he was not a liberal. Not a liberal Democrat and not a liberal Republican.
Reagan was a glitch, because while he was a conservative, he spent like a drunken liberal, yet for one of the greatest of conservative causes, to tear down the Soviet Union.
Yet with the Bushes and their ilk running the Republican party, conservatives have been locked out, derided, cursed and spat upon so much that they have finally risen up, and are systematically tearing down the RINOs, so they will never again work with Democrats against America.
And here we have Mitch McConnell. He has openly proclaimed his hatred of conservatives and conservatism. As such, he has come out of the closet. And the Republican party RINO purge will not be complete until he is overthrown.
So, is he opposed to abortion? Really? Or does he just say he is, hoping for six more years of liberalism in Washington.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. Put not your faith in a lily-livered, pasty rumped liberal.
Hate to break your bubble, but McConnell, buy selling us out and appeasing what’s going on in DC, is doing more to support Molech than Grimes could ever do.
It took Nixon to give us the EPA and price controls. It took Clinton to get welfare reform (for however long that lasted).
If Grimes wants to stay elected in that district, he’ll have to be the most conservative democrat ever built. Everybody wants that second term. McConnell thinks its his personal property.
Which one’s the Molech supporter? Such as that is?
There is no legal recall for the U.S. Senate in any state.
Amen to that.
I’ve also been down that “lesser of two evils” path, and to what end? In McConnell’s case, we have a “minority leader” more interested in serving the needs of his “good friend” Harry Reid — remember how much campaigning McConnell did on behalf of candidates trying to unseat Reid in 2010? That’s right.. None. Add to that the turkey-necked POS’s little act of treachery in the MS primary on behalf of his other “good friend” Cochran. Let’s also not forget McConnell’s complete absence of leadership in the lame duck session in 2010, when the repeal of DADT passed and the abysmal START treaty with Russia was ratified.
Election time is meant to be an assessment of candidates and the voters’ selection of one over the other. My question is what exactly has McConnell accomplished over the past 5 1/2 years to warrant another six long years snuggling at Harry Reid’s feet?
I thought your position was ill thought out and based on ignorance. Now that you have said this, you've given me the evidence to demonstrate it.
You can't recall a US Senator. Recalls only work on State positions. There is no constitutional provision for the recall of a US Senator or Representative.
What happened to Saul? Ask yourself that. What happened to him?
God appointed him King over Israel, Samuel anointed him. Saul was even victorious over the Philistines before he was crowned.
Saul changed. Saul became full of himself. He acted as if he were eternally blessed, and when another was anointed to take his place, he became threatened and waged war against his perceived enemy.
And then a funny thing happened. David, who Saul fought against, went and worked for the Philistines. And it was the Philistines that killed Saul.
Then David became king and drove the Philistines away again.
If Saul had not fought against David, then Saul’s reign would have lasted much longer. But Saul was killed because he betrayed his greatest ally. He was jealous of David’s victories and he was threatened by David’s growing power.
Saul = McConnell
David = The Tea Party
Philistines = Democrats
The President and the Majority Leader thank you for your courageous stand on principle!
“You sound like Pontius Pilot.”
Is he the guy that raises and lowers the bridges downtown?
The establishment RINOs are counting on your attitude. They know they can keep serving up “take it or leave it” candidates because people like you will keep voting for them.
“There is no constitutional provision for the recall of a US Senator or Representative.”
They did try to use impeachment against a Senator once, but the Senate dismissed it without actually deciding whether impeachment could apply to a representative or not.
But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.
He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared.
-- Marcus Tullius Cicero
You tell me. Better the enemy who wears their standard proudly, imho.
But I'm not from Kentucky, you will all have to decide.
Yes. I don't know about you, but I'm not into prolonging agony. The only thing we're accomplishing by delaying the inevitable is we're getting older and the Left is getting a stronger grip on Generation X and Generation.com every day. The cancer is spreading, and instead of trying to cure it, we're looking for ways to slow its spread. That's idiotic.
"Nothing personal, but are you delusional?
Do you think this is an action movie?"
No, I'm not delusional. I'm wide awake. I've read history. I recognize that's what happening today in our nation has happened before in other nations, and I know what happened to them.
My questions to you: 1) are you asleep? 2) Why are you wearing rose-colored glasses? 3) Are you so addicted to your delusions that you don't realize there is absolutely nothing to be happy about, nothing to be optimistic about, nothing to hang your hopes on? I think you're idiotic to believe there's any way to save our Republic without facing some kind of nightmare scenario. The only thing we can do at this point is mitigate exactly how dark and deep that nightmare is.
Do I think it's an action movie? No...I think it's history repeating. As Churchill said,
"Still, if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves."
We're at the third scenario now, and because too many of us are in denial, we'll soon be at the fourth. All the Harvey Milktoast Pubbies in the world won't change that. Romney wouldn't have changed that. Insane McCain wouldn't have. Jorge Bush didn't. We had our chance to fix things the easy way, but instead we put the "No Bad Days" bumper sticker on the SUV, cranked up "Don't Worry, Be Happy", and poured ourselves another Corona while we happily lounged on the beach. Now we're gonna pay for our laziness.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Yes, we're ALL tired of the squishy republicans.
But even squishy republicans can be reasoned with.
An Elizabeth Warren can NEVER be counted on to do the right thing. EVER.
Even Olympia Snowe and Arlen Specter could have moments of clarity.
Hard core leftists NEVER do.
I'll take half a loaf.
Instead of losing that half of a loaf, and letting some liberal start raiding my icebox for more goodies.
Here is an excellent guide, for any Christian.
A Brief Catechism for Catholic Voters
Fr. Stephen F. Torraco, PhD
You have absolutely no clue as to what my spiritual state is. And I challenge you to cite where I said I was supporting Grimes.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you want Grimes to win and McConnell to lose.
If I am wrong about that, then I would agree you are not supporting Grimes.
You are wrong about that. I never said I was supporting Grimes.
To add to that.. however.. I am NOT supporting McConnell.
Thanks for your response. I think the question you address is important and deserves it’s own thread.
I do think that this: “you don’t realize there is absolutely nothing to be happy about, nothing to be optimistic about, nothing to hang your hopes on?” is an example of fear and defeatism and spiritual drought.
I don’t think a Christian can ever think that.
What you are describing is societal, well beyond politics.
