San Antonio police mistake photographer for fleeing drug suspect, beat him silly

Ah, another glorious moment in America’s drug war.

Three San Antonio Police officers are being investigated for possibly using excessive force, after a May 20 incident in west San Antonio left a man with injuries to his face, skull and neck.

Roger Carlos was in the 10600 block of Westover Hills Boulevard taking photos of a building that will soon be home to his wife’s medical practice, when he was approached by three officers around 2:30 p.m.

The officers were identified as an undercover drug task force officer and two SAPD SWAT members.

According to an SAPD incident report released to I-Team, the officers had been pursuing a suspect nearby who was wanted on a felony warrant.

“All three of them started beating me on the head,” said Carlos, who still showed visible signs of the beating when he spoke with KENS 5 weeks after the incident.

“It was unbelievable. I couldn’t believe it was happening to me.”

Carlos said he was struck about 50 times, even though he complied with the officers’ instructions and did not fight back.

Shortly after being handcuffed and explaining to officers that he owned the property, a fourth officer approached and said the suspect was in custody nearby.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says it was a case of “mistaken identity,” ... “From the report that I’ve read, from the photo that I saw and from your description, I’ve not seen anything at this point that would indicate to me that anything out of order happened.”

No, here’s what you said: “Police abuse their authority all the time. And I don’t know what the WaPo is doing reporting this, what their angle is, but, really?

I don’t think San Antonio has a bad rep for this - out of control police business.

This guy is wandering around a very swanky hotel district taking pictures of s building.

Maybe the cops were ridiculous and brutal and way out of order.

But... this guy’s wife is a doctor and he doesn’t know enough post 9 11 not to go around taking pix of buildings.

It’s something we’re trained to not do. wanted to take photos of some visiting airplanes once on base and hub came tearing over, ‘no, don’t do that, the SPs will be all over us’.

I don’t know.

An McManus isn’t known for being a jerk as far as I know

Well, I don’t know about this. Plus, could we give SA a break, the overrun border is right there.”

That’s what I said.

Did it need correcting? And if so, why, exactly?

McManus is a jerk. Former police chief of Minneapolis, MN.

No, taking pictures is not suspicious behavior. This nation really has been brainwashed. That this is allowed shows just how far we have gone. Evidently the LAPD is the enemy of American citizens, you know, the ones they work for, and who pay them.

Absolutely ridiculous.

You claim that:
“ he doesn’t know enough post 9 11 not to go around taking pix of buildings.”
There is nothing illegal about taking pix of buildings.
“It’s something we’re trained to not do”
I don’t need training on my constitutionally protected activities, thank you.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus says it was a case of “mistaken identity,” .

So if it had been the suspect they were looking it for it would have been ok? You should lose your job along with your thugs, Willy. He's a gun grabber too, piece of s**t.

Obama just said that the world has never been safer.

Why should anyone care if someone takes a picture of a small office building? It's not like it's a famous landmark or anything.

Notice how he switches it to being about drugs, rather than the police.

Again, “Maybe the cops were ridiculous and brutal and way out of order.”

As I said.

This is an office building. The property is privately owned. He is not constitutionally protected to trespass, taking photos of the building.

He IS constitutionally protected from illegal search and seizure and certainly protected from assault and battery.

This might go very badly for the SAPD, and I hope it does if the guy’s story is true.

SAPD has a border invasion to deal with, they’re not getting a whole lot of recognition for that

Caught that one, right! LOL

I'm a veteran, a registered Republican, a known TEA Party supporter and active on the Internet.
I now am expecting to be attacked by elements of my own government.

If only I would STFU and learn not to speak, I wouldn't have to worry about anything.LOL!

He owned the property. If he didn’t, you think he deserved the beating?

Would you also like to go on record as in favor of their gun grabbing tactics?

If an office building is open to the public then anyone can go into it or out of it and they are not trespassing unless the owner has specifically told a person he must stay away.

A person is not trespassing for taking pictures of a building. I don’t even think the owner can forbid photography from a public street.

"But... this guy’s wife is a doctor and he doesn’t know enough post 9 11 not to go around taking pix of buildings...."

So post 911 citizen's are not allowed to take pictures of buildings they own?

The mind boggles....

‘...building that will soon be home to his wife’s medical practice...’

From this you know for a fact that he owns it?

Maybe the guy is in for some real compensation, and if he’s been targeted by police state wacko cops, I hope so, for all that’s at stake here, but...
