Senate Democrats are now explicitly saying they will try to use Boehners border bill as a vehicle for broad, Gang of 8″ style amnesty, and immigration activists are urging them on. All the more reason to call ((202) 224-3121). A House vote on Boehners bill is expected Thursday.
Beware a Boehner Supertrap: Today (Tuesday 7/29) looks like Crunch Day for the House when it comes to finalizing a pre-August bill to deal with the surge of Central American immigrants coming across the Southern border. Aides to Speaker Boehner have been blowing a lot of smoke about how Republicans are desperate to pass something before they confront their constituents, and Politico has been inhaling. But clearly it wont be easy for Boehner to put together a majority. If no Dems vote for his bill, he can only afford to lose 16 members of his caucus.
It should be difficult for Boehner to get a majority, since the centerpiece of his effort is amending the 2008 Wilberforce law, a badly-drafted anti-trafficking statute that is probably partly responsible for attracting some of the border surgers, at least as it has been interpreted by President Obama (to require individual hearings for practically everyone from Central America who shows up). Changing or repealing Wilberforce is an admirable project. But in the current legislative context it is quite likely to trigger an attempt to set up an ongoing House-Senate conference in which every frustrated pro-amnesty lobbyist will try to stick in their favorite part of the Senates monstrous Gang of 8 comprehensive legalization + immigration increase bill.
(SNIP) It doesnt help that Boehners legislative changes are reportedly being drafted by Becky Tallent, the professional amnesty-pusher Boehner hired last year in his hell bent effort to push through some kind of lobbyist-pleasing legalization bill.

Once they flood us with illegals they won’t need us citizens anymore for anything.
It’s a win win for them.
Too bad it’s a lose lose for the rest of us. :(
I don’t see why ANY new laws of ANY type should be passed by Congress until there is agreement by the WH to enforce existing laws. What’s the point?
Toss 95% of the old while yer at it!
I sent that exact same message to Tom Coburn a year ago. Halt all new laws. See where that got us. I still think it is the way to go. Easy to explain.
Disagree. Boehner should offer up a bill titled “Amnesty for Illegals” and allow for hours upon hours of floor debate. If democrats are too shy to go on the record with their position, Republicans should offer up charts and quotes from democrats advocating selling out the inheritance of most Americans. The press will not hold the radicals accountable. Sadly, boehner represents the GOPe and is a radical on amnesty too.
Why would they? Most Pubs want some form of amnesty to pass. Any Pub who is supported by the Chamber of Commerce (almost all of them) is already committed to it, and the CoC will be there in January to collect on their investments.
So, do you think Reid said that so that the bill would pass, or so he could stop a bill he didn’t like?
Or what about this: The ACA was originally passed in the house under the title: “Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act of 2009”. The Senate took the bill, gutted it entirely, and put their bill in. That could have led to a conference with the house, except the house just took the senate result and passed it because they couldn’t make any changes anymore.
So, if Reid really wanted to amend a house bill to attach the gang of 8 bill and go to conference with Boehner, he could use any of 2 dozen bills the house already sent to the senate this year that are sitting languishing. He doesn’t need THIS bill.
So again, why do you think Reid PUBLICLY announced that he would do this? Do you think he would publicly announce this if he wanted the bill to pass so he could do this, or would he have kept it secret?
