Local group expresses immigration views to Kinzingers office

A small group of local citizens met with U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger's staff Monday to voice concerns over the government's disregard for the nation's immigration laws.

The group, who call themselves Taxpayers of Congressional District 16, met with Kinzinger's representatives in the Republican's district office in Ottawa.

"We have come to believe that our congressman has become a leader in the amnesty (for illegal immigrants) movement within the Republication party," said Roseanna Pulido, of Ottawa. "We also believe the immigration issue is just not a border state issue. It is a national issue of national security."

John Aschinger, of Streator, and others in the group, whose members gathered in The Times' offices following the meeting to explain their positions, agreed with Pulido.

"These illegal immigrants are overloading the system and forcing us into borrowing against our future," Aschinger said. "What are we going to do with all these people who are here illegally? Do we really need any more foreign workers?"

Send the freeloaders home before they get the chance to be “offended” by the American flag or something. They are not Americans and never will be.

Delighted to see that you and I are in the same 16th CD and apparently share similar views of Kinzinger. If and when a primary is contemplated, count me in!

Out of all of the freshmen who entered in 2011, he is probably the one I’m most disappointed with. He was compromised very quickly with the promise of the good committee posts, etc. It is a huge shame - a young, bright guy, well spoken who sold out. Maybe all is not lost if he will listen to people like you and take the words to heart, but I’m not very optimistic...but keep trying.
