Mika: Stephen A. Smith Made 'Absolutely Valid Point' About Domestic Violence
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

There are days when Mika Brzezinski will surprise you. Take Morning Joe today, and Brzezinski's comments on the news that ESPN had suspended Stephen A. Smith for a week for his comments about women "provoking" domestic violence.

Said Mika: "I think it's too bad we can't have a conversation without people exploding, because I think he was trying to make a point. It might have been inartful but there was a point to what he was saying that is absolutely valid and has value." Surprising, no?

Mika makes surprisingly supportive statement about Stephen A. Smith. Ping to Today show list.

Not to change the subject but can someone tell me where Joe Scarborough has been for the last, oh, 365 days? How does he pull down a huge salary while never showing up to work? Several years ago, Representative Peter King called him out on his shoddy work habits but nothing ever changes. And how do I get a job like this?

It may be a valid point, but its definitely among the forbidden valid points.

The only segment I saw this morning was her conniption fit over tanning beds. She is such a twit.

I can't believe that NBC is seriously considering her and Joe to team up on Meet the Press.

If we've learned anything from watching Morning Joe, neither Joe nor Mika have the intellectual heft to carry a show by themselves.

Contrast that to the successful shows such as Rush & Levin, who rarely have guests on their shows.

I still haven't heard the 'valid point' behind "let’s make sure we don’t do anything to provoke wrong actions."

Is Stephen whatever the gay Ken doll on the show? Phew, you put the IQs of that crowd together and you come up with about 50.

I am a woman. I think Mr. Smith was saying it takes two to tango. He was not gender specific. In the heat of a battle people push buttons that they know can lead to a nuclear explosion by the other person.

I don't feel from what he said that anyone, let a lone a woman should be subservient. But what he was saying is there is a way to avoid lighting the fuse.

Taking into account that Mr. Smith is black and that the black family is largely Matriarchal in nature. Black men are most often disrespected by black women. Women actually have power in these situations. Every situation is different.

I don't think men ever should lay their hands on a woman and I don't Mr. Smith thinks they should either. BUT, you keep in a man face enough he may snap.

The right to swing your fist ends at the other person’s nose.

The attempt to rewrite the narrative of wife-beating is driven by the demographics of high-profile abuse cases and the support for wife beating in Islam. Throw in higher number of abuse cases in same-sex relationships and the narrative is required to be rewritten.

I don't disagree, but we are not talking about Muslims. We are talking about women inspired by these feminist loving dyke's that have been teaching and screeching for 40 years. Women in this country are not the peaceful little defenseless doves they used to be.

Apparently you don't know to many black women. But you can about imagine Moochelle going off on Obama. Not that she would deserve to be hit, not at all. But ladies need to keep their hands to themselves and walk away just as men should.

I was astonished. Whoopie Goldberg sided with him too, and even went farther than he did...

Her take was basically that women have decided they want to live in gender equal world where "chivalry is dead" then they shouldn't get upset when they hit a man and get punched right back. She went on to say they she had absolutely no problem with a man punching a women that hits him first. Then one of the (rather astonished) cohosts muttered something about a 5 foot women and a 6' 5" man hardly being a fair fight. To which Whoopie responded, "Well maybe the 5 foot women should think of that before she gets up in the 6' 5" man's face!"

If a woman threw the first punch, she is charged with domestic violence.

I dated a girl who said her x hit her. After a few weeks I understood why. I bailed on that relationship damn quick.

Some women just insist on pushing things to the edge.

Others just insist on being in a relationship with someone they know is a violent thug.
