Vulnerable Dems balk at Obama executive actions on immigration

Democratic senators facing tough reelections want to put the brakes on President Obama’s plan to reform the nation’s immigration enforcement system through executive action.

Two of the Senate’s most vulnerable incumbents, Sens. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and Kay Hagan (D-N.C.), say Obama should not act unilaterally to reduce deportations, arguing it’s Congress’s job to change the law.

While the Democratic-led Senate has passed a bipartisan bill, the Republican-controlled House will not. That poses a dilemma for Obama. Slowing or halting deportations of otherwise law-abiding residents who came to the country illegally could produce a backlash in red states where Obama has low approval numbers. Furthermore, the crisis at the southern U.S. border complicates any move to ease deportation laws.

But not taking executive action could discourage Latino voters, who backed Obama and other Democratic candidates overwhelmingly in the 2012 elections and expect action on immigration reform.

Many of those voters are upset by the relatively high rate of deportation during Obama’s second term. Earlier this year, Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) and Janet Murguía, the president of the National Council of La Raza, dubbed Obama the “deporter-in-chief.”

While Latino voters will be crucial to Democrats’ winning the White House in 2016, they are not nearly as much of a factor in this year’s Senate battlegrounds. Except for Colorado, where Hispanics make up more than 20 percent of the population, Latino voters make up a small percentage of states’ electorates.

Can't be posted often enough.

Your figures are merely typical, not extreme.

John Legal is too tired to barely BBQ after all the work and lawfulness, John Illegal has unlimited stripper/girlfriend money while his ‘wife’ drives her kids and sister around all day in the 2012 black Escalade getting pedicures, shopping with EBTs, selling the steaks and seafood to restaurants.

Has anyone but me, been wondering if Mexicans, who are here legally or illegally, are pi**ed off at the "special treatment" the Obama administration is giving to Central Americans who are here illegally? They get special treatment with re: to deportation, etc. I've not seen anything addressing this possibility. One would think that Pro-Amnesty Mexicans, and their Latino Leaders, would be outraged.

$500.00 per month for food,

That would buy about 35 pounds of Ribeye steak or about a 100 lbs of hamburger.

I remember when Ladybird Johnson suggested we should eat cheese when beef was going up in price. Problem was cheese was more expensive than beef.

La Raza's drumming up hatred for Republicans is tantamount to advocating the overthrow of the US govt.....and she's doing it on the taxpayers' dime.

Too many words in that paragraph.

From elsewhere:

LET ME SEE IF I GOT THIS RIGHT

If you cross the North Korean border illegally you get 12 years hard labor.

If you cross the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely.

If you cross the Afghan border illegally, you get shot.

If you cross the Saudi Arabian border illegally you will be jailed.

If you cross the Chinese border illegally you may never be heard from again.

If you cross the Venezuelan border illegally you will be branded a spy and your fate will be sealed.

If you cross the Cuban border illegally you will be thrown into political prison to rot.

If you cross the U.S. border illegally you get
1 - a job,
2 - a drivers license (see 12),
3 - social security card,
4 - welfare,
5 - food stamps,
6 - credit cards,
7 - subsidized rent or a loan to buy a house,
8 - free education,
9 - free health care,
10 - a lobbyist in Washington who will plead your case to sympathetic ears
11 - billions of dollars worth of public documents printed in your language
12 - The right to vote for those who give you these things
13 - The right to carry your country’s flag while you protest that you don’t get enough respect and demand that people listen to you

OK, I just wanted to make sure I had a firm understanding on the situation.

...... conveniently missing among the IRS’s lost internal emails are communications with Sens. Mark Udall, Mark Begich, and a dozen other Democrats who received campaign contributions from the IRS union.

Democratic senators who took campaign donations from the IRS union include Sens. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana who received $25,500, Al Frankin of Minnesota, $5,000, and Mark Begich of Alaska.
