I read once that the special torpedos were manned sucide Mini Subs—Naval versions of the Kamakazi airplanes—That’s why they hit so accuratly—One of the few times such a weapon was used.

True enough... who knows how many millions would have died had we invaded the Home Islands... they were handing out spears to women and children.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate it.

I also seem to recall that the Court Martial brought the Japanese submarine commander in to testify against him, but he said words to the effect of “no matter what evasive moves the commander would have done, I would have sunk the ship anyway.” Something to that effect, I recall.

Terrible thing that McVay killed himself over it. Tragedy all around. The men in the water for days, the sharks, the miscommunication, all of it.

Bull Sharks live in the coastal regions of the world at time traveling up fresh water rivers miles. THis from Wikipedia.
The Discovery Channel stated in Shark Week episodes “Ocean of Fear” that the Indianapolis sinking resulted in the most shark attacks on humans in history, and attributes the attacks to the oceanic whitetip shark species. Tiger sharks might have also killed some of the survivors. The same show attributed most of the deaths on Indianapolis to exposure, salt poisoning and thirst, with the dead being dragged off by sharks.[14]
