By REBECCA KAPLAN CBS NEWS July 30, 2014 Obama May Consider Deferring Deportation for Millions

The White House is reportedly weighing unilateral steps President Obama could take to defer the deportation of anywhere from 550,000 to 4.4 million of immigrants living in the U.S., a move that would be sure to infuriate Republicans.

According to the Wall Street Journal, top White House officials have discussed the potential for executive action in a series of meetings with stakeholders who support such a move, including faith leaders and immigrant advocates and some lawmakers.

Two possibilities under discussion would protect people who have U.S. citizen children, the paper reports. Extending protection, and perhaps work permits, to anyone who has children who are legal U.S. citizens (usually because they were born here) could exempt about 4.4 million people from deportation, according to statistics from the National Foundation for American Policy. A more limited path would be to just include parents of children who have been accepted into the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Those children fall within a particular age range and length of residence in the U.S., so the number of parents is estimated at 550,000 to 1.1 million.

...a move that would be sure to infuriate Republicans.

Just Republicans? Try most of the American people, especially when they realize these lawbreakers will be receiving work permits.

There will be a tsunami of illegal aliens storming across the border similar to what DACA brought. When you reward something, you get more of it.

Why is the White House putting this out there? Trial balloon.

They are testing to see how their base will take the news. If this means more state legislatures go GOP my guess is they will back off.

The thousands who demonstrated against this policy in MA tells me it is very unpopular even in blue states

FIFY. Republicans, on the other hand, won't mind a bit.

Unfortunately Obama is the second amnesty pushing President in a row who believes he has no obligation to deport illegals.

The Left always overreaches. ALWAYS.

I can only think of a handful of cases where their overreaching negatively affected them, however.

You can muck up quite a bit and quite often as long as you've got a fawning press and an idiot electorate on your side.

Here is a simple question ...suppose Obama does this ...it goes to court and it is determined he does not have the authority to do it ....Then What?

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.

A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

...Sadly this is coming true right in front of out eyes.

As for Obama’s oath, he has to answer to God directly for breaking it, since he’s the leader of the country.

That's probably not high on his worry list

Then what? - seriously?

Then nothing happens and Obama legalizes a voting bloc for the democrats that makes LBJ's move look like a summer stroll in the park - how many divisions does the court have? - yes, the Republic would be null and void and we would be in a lawless dictatorship. He might not even grant us an election in 2016 - he'd just refuse to step down. Why not? Who's going to make him, the Capitol Police?

This is what the house should have sued over. Obama’s failure to enforce the law.

I agree. They’re getting a lot of fundraising traction over the ‘they’re going to impeach him!’ manufactured hysteria, but not the results they expected, I think, from the immigration issue.

Sensing nothing happens, its unlikely the SC will take up this transgression. The political remedy is impeachment even if not feasible. The republic is trapped in a corner. This is something neither the Framers nor later leaders and Congress foresaw- a blatant violation of his constitutional oath of office. Community organizers don’t understand what an oath means.

I can only think of a handful of cases where their overreaching negatively affected them, however.

I actually watched one of them unfold back when the Iraq war started in 2003. I was watching live coverage of the San Francisco protests (when the old hippies who had slid into disco demons and then into rank capitalists decided because a Republican was President they wanted to be hippies again). All was going well with the shouting and the signs until some of the old hippies (the real ones, not the ones who became disco demons and then capitalists and then decided they wanted to recapture their youth and impress girls because they were again War Protestors) began actually and rather enthusiastically defecating while the live news cams were rolling. The live news cams were suddenly shut down, and nobody mentioned those protests for a long time. THAT was overreach.
