I am just wondering how white conservative parents feel about sending their college age kids off to UW-Madison with their newly instituted “Framework for Diversity and Inclusive Excellence” policy?

That’s the problem. Unions can’t have people realizing that they are better off without them.

I relocated to Sun Prairie 4 years ago from Fort Wayne and have experienced extreme culture shock.

I learned quickly that those who lean most to the left are the most self absorbed people I have ever met. Their rudeness is unparalleled from talking during performances, to unruly children, to down right nastiness in the checkout line at the Grocery store.

These folks live in a ME, ME, ME world I have never experienced. And they believe they are the be all and end all of compassion and fairness.

Thank goodness all it takes is to leave Dane County and sanity is restored.

Three times I’ve been to Madison Wis., lovely place as is nearly all of Wisconsin.

Yes, it's a beautiful state. As for your other questions, here's my perception:

Couple things I fail to understand, Why so lib in Milwaukee and Madison?

Not sure, but it probably has to do with both being major university hubs. Madison has the UW-Madison, Madison Area Technical College, several private and/or on-line colleges, and Edgewood College (Catholic).

Why is Walker even in his re-election bid when his policies obviously have been great for the people there?

See above, why let facts get in the way of feelings? One more thing, why pubs on two or three corners at many intersections? They seem to be everywhere there like gas stations in L.A. of Banks in Miami.

How else would we wash down all that cheese? :-) But seriously, early on, Wisconsin was a magnet for German immigrants. They brought their beer recipes along. The German heritage, as well as Dutch, Polish, Swedish, and Norwegian, are still very much in evidence. In addition to a couple of national breweries, we have several micro-breweries.

That is why the fought so hard. They knew then that the law was valid, legal and oh so legitimate.

Haven’t heard much, yet. But most of the parents I hang out with have children too young or too old to be attending UW.

Union membership has taken a nosedive, proving your point. This is all driven by liberal politicians and union bosses who see their power disappearing.

Ah, you're forgetting the political campaign recipients of the union dues and assessments.

DING! DING! DING!

We have a winner! This might have looked like the unions fighting for survival, but this was actually Democrats fighting for financing via the taxpayer!

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the 2011 law that effectively ended collective bargaining for most public workers,

The ol' "lead with a lie" routine again, one that gets repeated over and over. The workers retain collective bargaining rights for salaries. At this point, one wonders what the political benefit was of retaining that option.

Wife and I travel extensively and wherever we go we look at a couple Brew pub maps to find food and brew.
Just NOT going to applebees or chilis, when we can find craft food and beers.
“we have several micro-breweries. “!!
Wisconsin has more brewpubs than anywhere....
Check out the beer mapping project and you have as many microbreweries as most states have banks.
Wonderful places like the Angry Minnow.
Thanks for your good info and be safe.

----5% Carry 100% of Free Republic Expense----

Could the above topic be a good lead-in to a fund-raising thread?

Post as a thread and encourage FReepers to proudly post that they are a supporter. Ask for screen names only, NO DOLLAR AMOUNTS!

No matter what a person's situation is, they can at the least spare $5 now and then.

I suggest each responder self-identify as one who >
- donates when they can. or
- is a monthly supporter.

One would have to be quite brazen to say they support the forum when they actually don't donate at all.

I'm a monthly supporter!

“Gableman, who wrote the opinion, is part of the conservative majority of the state Supreme Court. Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson and Justice Ann Walsh Bradley, the court’s two most liberal members, dissented. They argued the law unconstitutionally infringes on protected rights.”

The author conveniently forgot to mention that the third liberal on the seven-member Supreme Court of Wisconsin, Patrick Crooks, voted to uphold the law. In June 2011, Crooks had been one of the three liberal dissenters in a case that upheld the collective-bargaining bill from a challenge prior to it going into effect.

Just as joy is the sntithesis of sorrow, union slavery is the antithesis of individual freedom.
