Ted Cruz Proves Why He’s Still the Most Hated Man in Congress
The New Republic ^ | 07/31/2014 | Danny Vinik

You may not have heard much from Senator Ted Cruz lately, but on Thursday, he came back with a force in blowing up House Republicans’ bill to address the border crisis. Make no mistake, House Speaker John Boehner—and the rest of the Republican establishment—still have a big Ted Cruz problem. And it’s only going to get bigger as the 2016 presidential election approaches.

As it stands now, Cruz has successfully persuaded a block of House Republicans to vote against the House GOP’s border bill, forcing Boehner to pull the legislation from the docket. The situation is still fluid. The House GOP had an emergency meeting this afternoon and a few members have said that they'll stay in session until they vote on the bill. While the next steps are unclear at the moment, what is clear is that Cruz played an integral part in Thursday's events.

This was yet another embarrassing moment for Boehner, new Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and new Majority Whip Steve Scalise. The GOP leadership had tried everything to convince a core group of right wingers to vote for the bill. They reduced the additional funding in it from $1.5 billion to $659 million and added a separate vote to repeal Obama’s 2012 executive action that allowed young undocumented immigrants to stay and work in the U.S. legally, which is officially called the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“Jeff Sessions is the real force on this issue. I am glad Cruz is joining him.”

I laugh as the supposed conservative from Alabama remains the guy who helped save Eric Holder’s assent to power as AG.
I do not trust someone who has such poor judgment of people.

“Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, for example, said he was sure that Mr. Holder would be “a responsible legal officer and not a politician.””

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/03/us/politics/03holder.html?hp&_r=0

You won’t find Senator Cruz being that naïve or stupid.

Jeff Sessions is the real deal. Read this, Becoming the Party of Work How the GOP can help struggling Americans, and itself. By Senator Jeff Sessions

Sessions has been very tough on Holder numerous times. Dredging up a meaningless confirmation vote that would have changed nothing is really irrelevant. Sessions is the real force behind the fight against the GOPe and has been for some time, long before Cruz came to the Senate. And Sessions is neither naive or stupid.

A couple of days ago, there was a report on Fox that gave poll results from some recent preference poll of potential Republican presidential candidates. Two or three had around 12% and then a couple had 9%. The name of each potential candidate was simply used, except for one at 9% who was:

Firebrand Ted Cruz

The only one where I heard any adjective before the name. But I think it is positive that Cruz is at 9% because he is still not very well known. I think he'd make a big leap in any initial Republican primary debates late next year.

Cruz is the only one holding the line.

I AGREE !!!

Since "no one of stature" wants to lead the House Republicans ...

it doesn't matter to me if "Popeye the Sailor" played the role of "Tea Party Conservative House Whip" ...

and beat John Boehner and Eric Cantor to a bloody-pulp (politically).

I cannot recall a time in U.S. History when a Republican House Majority Leader was the "bitch whore in eternal heat" to a Democratic Socialist President.

What the HELL is going on here ?

Since Boehner and McCarthy are too ball-less to do their jobs, then Cruz is doing it for them.

In all of these situations, Cruz has been focused on his own political future, staking out a position as far to the right as he can. He didn’t care that his antics damaged the party. They were good for Ted Cruz—and that’s what mattered.

And it's also funny in how these lib pundits all think that they know what's in Cruz's mind...very similar to how they treat Palin, who they believe is only in it for the money.

Ok, give me an alternative for the quote praising Holder.

I am listening.

What is your problem? Are you upset because I praised Jeff Sessions? How does that diminish Cruz?

I am part of a grassroots immigration group that lobbies on the Hill. After almost 8 years of doing this, I am very familiar with all the players on the issue as well as the groups on our side like NumbersUSA, FAIR, CIS, etc. Jeff Sessions and Steve King have been central to this fight for a long time including defeating the amnesty bills of 2006 and 2007. It is just a fact.

You can try to bash Jeff Sessions all you want. He is a great man and worthy of the respect of all conservatives. He is the one who has laid out the path for a new direction for the GOP. Both parties have abandoned the American worker.

I see you did not answer the question as to why Sessions voted for Holder and took pains to ensure he praised him as well.

Now we are cursed with a AG still in office that is the first one under House contempt in our history.

As I said, no way would Cruz do something like that.

I did address it. You just didn't like the answer. If Sessions had voted against Holder, it would not have prevented his confirmation. The votes just weren't there. After the 2008 election, the Dems had total control over Congress including the Senate. It is how they rammed Obamacare down our throats.

GOP/Conservative, that's Senator Ted Cruz. There is a difference between a GOPer and a GOP/Conservative. You can be a GOP moderate, a GOPe or a GOP Conservative.
