In an interview with Fox News’ Catherine Herridge, Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) announced the first Benghazi select committee hearing will be held in early September.
The announcement comes after a few months of quiet investigation from the Committee, which was announced by House Speaker John Boehner in May, after almost a year of party leadership opposing the idea. The select committee includes seven Republicans and four Democrats.
This is almost TWO YEARS after the terror attacks at the American Embassy in Benghazi, Libya which killed 4 Americans… including Ambassador Chris Stevens.
Gowdy, a no-nonsense former prosecutor, has spent his $3.3 million budget wisely, and is determined to get to the truth behind the easily avoidable attack. We’re already learning that President Barack Obama and then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton deliberately ignored a major security threat before the attack, and more shameful details are about to be unearthed about this serious foreign policy blunder:
And according to Gowdy, no witness will be off limits… including Hillary:
The Republican head of the Benghazi Select Committee warned Tuesday that no witnesses would be off limits in its upcoming probe and that he would consider going to court, if necessary, to compel testimony.
“I can’t skip over a witness that I think we ought to talk to simply because there is an assertion of either privilege or immunity,” Chairman Trey Gowdy of South Carolina told Fox News in an exclusive interview.
He said that while he has received good cooperation to date, and the issue had not yet arisen, “if you mean to say that ‘not only can they not talk, they don’t have to come,’ you have to litigate that.”
Gowdy said the investigation will be driven by facts, characterizing as strongly bipartisan his work with the committee’s ranking Democrat, Elijah Cummings of Maryland, to review documents and identify witnesses.
He also said he anticipates the first public hearing will be held in September and will focus on the State Department investigation into the 2012 attack and whether its recommendations have been implemented.
Asked whether he wants Hillary Clinton to testify, Gowdy said, “I want everyone who has access to relevant information, and it is, I think, impossible to argue that the Secretary of State at the time would not have access to relevant information…”
Hopefully he has the good sense to get the footsoldiers and middle managers on the hot seat first to compile a war chest of facts...THEN you get the Hillary types in and grill them with said facts.
Hillary types will try several tacks - knock them down accordingly
Tack 1: I don’t recall
Response: Fine - we’ll rely on the testimony of your underlings, especially the ones who blame you
Tack 2: It was their fault
Response: They say they were following orders. Given that’s how most the world and especially the government operates, you were in command and are therefore accountable
Tack 3: It was a very fluid situation and we couldn’t reach our people
Response: We have logs and transcripts of a huge number of communications from the time(s) in question
etc. etc.
Hillary et al are coached with probable questions. Heck, they are even given questions in advance at times. I have every confidence in Gowdy but he needs to remove the bricks from the bottom so the wall will collapse.
.... Well ..... like my father used to say ... "If a tree falls in a forest and the media doesn't report it ...... does it make a sound?"
Hillary has a team of attorneys and paid liars like Lanny Davis working full time on this. They will use every trick in the book. Demanding questions in writing and submitting written answers after days of preparation is something that worked good for Bubba.
I submitted a prayer request at my church for Trey Gowdy. Just knowing the trouble and even deaths suffered by those the Clintons considered to be threats to their power, I feel concern for Mr.Gowdy’s safety. I hope you all will pray for his safety too as he carries this battle forward. God bless him.
What makes you think anything Gowdy does will have any impact on Obama?
If Gowdy believes "Cummings-the-Commie" will be bi-partisan, even this investigation will go nowhere.
Trey Gowdy and his Team are in my Prayers for a complete and thorough and safe investigation.
The saving grace will be the potential for video dramatic theater. The media will be sucked in like a DC Mayor smelling cocaine — they will not be able to resist it.
They know Gowdy and they know it will be dramatic and if someone else gets and runs the good footage and their network does not have it they are dead if it becomes the “thing to watch.”
They will try to spin it, commentate on it, all to no avail. Gowdy’s very honest words will shine through and those responsible are going to look like the idiots they are at bottom. The actual policies in play that created the setting in that Consular office may actually end up exposed — that would go all the way.
Trey Gowdy for President! Seriously, he is such a strong voice in Congress and I love his tough, no nonsense approach. He is fearful and doesn’t back down.

It would be richly deserved ego-deflater if Hillary were forced to testify alongside at least one other person. No star turn, no speechmaking.
Put her in the Prisoner’s Dilemma in real time i.e. ask questions of her and the other(s) and see how the stories hold up.
