At least ten Ukrainian soldiers have died in clashes with rebels near the crash site of flight MH17 on Friday, Kiev has confirmed.
At least 14 people have been killed today, ten of them confirmed as Ukrainian Airborne Troops soldiers, in what Kiev says was an ambush set up by militants near the town of Shakhtarsk, eastern Ukraine.
The bloody confrontation took place 15miles from the MH17 crash site, where an international team of experts is due to carry out inspections today.
In total it is known that 14 people died but the bodies of four of them have not been identified and could be Ukrainian soldiers or terrorists, said military spokesman Oleksiy Dmytrashkivsky. So far we are talking about 10 Ukrainian servicemen dead.
Meanwhile, a convoy of international investigators set out for a second visit to the crash site but on a road that did not go through Shakhtarsk.
A small team managed to perform an initial survey of the area for the first time yesterday.
Independent observers warned that there has been tampering with evidence.
Today, the team were travelling in 15 cars and one bus from their base in the rebel stronghold of Donetsk. Their convoy was joined by three vehicles from the International Committee of the Red Cross when it reached the government-controlled town of Debaltseve.
Both sides in the conflict in east Ukraine have tentatively agreed to a ceasefire around the crash zone, although there is evidence that fighting is continuing in nearby locations....

They have posted a Russian video alleging that Russian paratroopers cut-off and leveled the Ukr. Army unit. Pics VERY grim! Warning to all! Video shows a BMP totally destroyed. Crew and troops all dead.
Ukraine security spokesman Vladislav Seleznev said the attack took place at 6 a.m., before the end of the 24-hour “day of quiet” declared Thursday in response to a call for a cease-fire from U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
“The militants are behaving in a cowardly and shameless fashion,” Seleznev said. “The used the ‘day of quiet’ just to fire on us.”
Russian regulars or “rebels”? And if regulars, any info about how they were deployed?
Hmmm -- and how would they get there since the rebels have no air force??? Hmmmm
Well anyway, that's how the Russians spell Ceasefire -- A-m-b-u-s-h.
But of course the Russians will say that they didn't agree to any ceasefire, that being only between the Ukrainians and the rebels -- not between their paratroopers and the Ukrainian army.
There is a video on Youtube entitled:”Ukraine Donbass Rovenky huge column militia.” However, when observed, it hardly looks like “militia.” Or “separatists.” Proper intervals maintained. Road discipline. Obviously not a ragtag force.
