Alexander dodges question, says he voted for amnesty to “stop perpetual amnesty”
When Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) made a campaign stop at the Brainerd Road Rib & Loin Tuesday evening, he was met with a group of his primary opponent Joe Carr’s supporters who said they showed up to ask him about his vote for amnesty last year. Though Alexander dodged the question in his private campaign event, he told a reporter afterward that he didn’t vote for amnesty, he voted to “stop perpetual amnesty.”
While Alexander faces six challengers in August, his strongest is State Representative Joe Carr, who has been hammering him on his vote for the immigration reform bill last year. Even at his own events, Alexander can’t seem to shake the question.
A group of Carr’s campaigners found their way into an adjacent parking lot to the rib joint Tuesday to voice their discontent with his immigration stance. Co-founder of “Beat Lamar,” Michael Patrick Leahy, accused Alexander of dodging the question:
"We are here because Lamar Alexander won't answer our questions. He won't debate Joe Carr. He voted 'yes' on amnesty and won't explain why. He said we could walk down the street and just ask him a question. Well, we walked down the street and he's ignoring us."
During the private event, Alexander told supporters that he was confident that Republicans would take the Senate in fall, and laid out some of the key initiatives he hoped they could push through, including replacing Obamacare, fixing the debt, and promoting job creation. According to a local NBC affiliate, immigration reform was not among them.
After his remarks, Alexander did take a moment to address his immigration vote last year, saying to Channel 3 that he didn’t vote for amnesty, but against it:
"Last year, Senator Corker and I voted to stop perpetual amnesty, which is what we have for about 11 million illegal people here in the country. We voted to double border security. If that bill had passed, the border would be more secure today than it was a year ago."
As Laura Ingraham noted, Alexander might've finally addressed the question, but he sure doesn’t look overly happy about doing it:

C’mon people, send Carr some $. This race has huge national implications.
Come on Tennessee. DITCH LAMAR! I have some since there are some Bratt foreshadowings. Also TN transplants in Norther Mississippi went heavily for McDaniel in the Mississippi race.
It would go away if you and others would focus their time on impeachment.
Keep this up and we will not win back the senate. Lamar can win this seat. Don’t be so quick to turn it over to the dems. There is no guarantee that we will keep the seats we once held like Georgia for example. And we can not guarantee picking up the seats in Louisiana Arkansas and Alaska. You don’t have to agree just be civil in the discourse

Tennessee is blood red. The seat is going to a Republican in November be he RINO or conservative.
That’s the way it’s done by GOP-E. Dilute the anti-incumbent vote. Guarantee that most of those opponents are GOP-E plants.

Um...I don’t see anyone even talking about turning this seat over to the Dems — but this is the typical red herring argument from the RINOs I guess. To the contrary, this is a GOP primary we are discussing, in which we happen to (civilly) believe that Joe Carr is the better candidate and the most conservative candidate that can win. TN is after all a deep red state and in a wave or at the very least favorable GOP election, whoever the nominee is should have no trouble holding that seat.

Yeah, that’s the ticket, give Obama exactly what he and the RATs want. I’m with Krauthamer, while Impeachment may be the legal thing to do, it would be a disaster for Republicans, just like it was with Clintoon. With RINOs having only a couple of points on the RATs on the positive scale, they have pi$$ed away their message on just about everything. Now they look like a bunch of morons the way they are muddling through their “immigration bill.” I just can’t imagine a more inept bunch. No message, no balls, no spines. As I am writing this Obama is gassing up a storm about how the Republicans are responsible for our current mess, and to the LIV’s it probably is making sense.

I doubt you can prove that.
Four of these opponents need to drop out and stop allowing the incumbents to get the nomination. Republicans truly are the stupid party - you don’t see Demoncrats doing this - they normally have just one opponent running against the other. And even more stupid are those who vote for candidates who don’t have a prayer of winning, thus wasting their votes and allowing the elitists to remain in power.

Behind Carr, there is a guy polling 6-7% who has run before for office.
I therefore doubt he is a product of a GOPe conspiracy, to deprive Carr of his victory.
Rather it is a product of normally ineffective GOP thinking, in general, conservatives not exempted.
