West Africa's Ebola outbreak is out of control but it can be stopped, World Health Organization chief Margaret Chan said on Friday.
"This outbreak is moving faster than our efforts to control it," Chan told the presidents of Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast at a meeting in Guinea's capital Conakry.
"If the situation continues to deteriorate, the consequences can be catastrophic in terms of lost lives but also severe socioeconomic disruption and a high risk of spread to other countries," she said, according to a WHO transcript.

Reroute all plains to Washington International.
And hope that EVERY congresscritter visits that airport soon.
Has it crossed the Mexican-US Border yet?
To infect our country, cuz it’s “not fair” that “black countries” are the only ones being infected.
So Hussein's solution, devised by his staff of "Best and Brightest" Morons, is to bring them here.
Yikes! I don’t know how they get people to work for the Border Patrol. Those people are brave and the Obama administration is crapping all over them.
ju know maing.....I dunno.....
imagine a whole trainload of ebola victims...
It will move even faster after Obama meets and greets his 50 African Leaders
How about a very high risk to homosexuals, serial fornicators, and IV drug abusers in western countries?
“This outbreak is moving faster than our efforts to control it,”
NOT good news!
And possibly everyone else.
The nice thing about a natural disaster is that it is equal-opportunity, meaning it might even get Ubama.
Is that not insanity? Or, rather, diabolical?
I guess the last time the devil (Hussein) came down to Georgia, he decided that we would be the FIRST HOT ZONE in America.
Also high risk to necrophiliacs.
This outbreak is moving faster than our efforts to control it,
Code words for more U.S. $$
“.....the U.S. Department of State has confirmed in a statement that it, along with the CDC, is facilitating the medical evacuation of two American patients with Ebola. ....
another victory for John Kerry...
Does the Caliph do a lot of glad-handing at all these fund raisers he attends or is he in a sterile bubble?
Yikes! The same CDC in Atlanta that was reprimanded a few days ago for being careless and sloppy with their vials of anthrax will be in charge of Dr. Brantley’s recovery from ebola when he arrives in the US. Nothing like endangering another continent by bringing the virus here.
So much for the custom of shaking hands with strangers, at least until this outbreak is suppressed.
like hini flu?
Agenda 21 and Ebola were made for each other.
What really worries me is the potential spread to Asia. China, Guangzhou, has a large population of African expats there. As well as the numerous Chinese workers in W. Africa who have the potential to bring back something.
One traffic accident away from destroying america. For a Satan worshipping Muslim like Obama, this is a chance to be a king in Hell forever.
The White House (Valerie Jarrett) probably has a plan that will ensure a proper level of diversity within these disease outbreaks.
Guangzhou, has already implemented control measures. Anybody getting off the plane with a fever of 99.7 or higher is being quarantined and tested.
Oh, I doubt it’s “diversity” she has in mind.
More like “let’s make sure those redneck conservatives are hardest hit”.
I shouldn’t be surprised...the viral load of ebola per deciliter of body fluid is so great during a persons “hot phase” which includes a period after ones death is so high that it’s been said it rivals the hazards of other well known highly toxic chemicals. A cough or spray to the eye or to a scratch by hemorrhagic bleeding, runny stools, or other fluids and one may well find that one’s personal goose is cooked!
Ebola is a “hot” virus - it kills its hosts quickly, SO if you can quarantine those infected and keep new folks from being exposed, it burns itself out. Two cycles (21 + 21) of no new cases usually means the end of an outbreak. If it’s spreading “faster than efforts to control it”, the efforts to keep those infected quarantined to prevent new exposures is not working. This outbreak appears to me to be out of control or very close to it. Usually, the Ebola outbreaks have been in the center of Africa - this is different because it’s ‘west’ Africa, where many travel centers are located so containing it in a remote area is not what is going on this time. The CDC says that with our ‘good hygiene’ and the good quarantine methods we have already (as opposed to African countries), any outbreak here could be controlled fairly quickly. My bottom line is that I’m not buying anything the ‘government’ is selling these days - too many lies over the dam already on pretty much everything.
"Canadian scientists have shown that the deadliest form of the ebola virus could be transmitted by air between species."
” - - - the Obama administration is crapping all over them. - - - “
All part of Obama’s promise to “Fundamentally transform the United States of America” into another failed European Socialist Welfare State, made EASILY possible by the obedient efforts of Speaker “Blank Check” Boehner.
I remember when SARS was supposed to kill us all.
Funeral homes may well insist on a “burn first” ask questions later strategy! (No, no we won’t make Aunt Lizzy look beautiful...how about we pay you to allow us to cremate her instead!)
I’ve been posting that link for 2 days now.
It also survives on surfaces (particularly polished surfaces, like much of our public transportation network!) for up to 5 days or more.
1 to 10 virus particles are all that are necessary to cause infection.
It did. This is just the aftermath.
I could see limited outbreaks(but catastrophic) though in the Gay and IV drug abuser groups. Because of their sex habits, an outbreak would go like wild fire. Just imagine the political drauma....they refused to be quarantined and to control their sex habits despite HIV....what would they do with Ebola?
I feel sure they have helicopters in Georgia.
Seriously, there is much more to fear from hordes of Africans coming to D.C. for an international summit, unrestricted air travel from all parts of Africa, and unrestrained border crossings, than there is from the controlled and quarantined transfer of these Americans to Emory.
SAR is like a common cold compared to ebola. Mortality rates for it are 60-90 percent.
Ebola outbreak—no public gatherings—elections in November postponed until the outbreak is over??
I guess it still can but the bigger worry now is MERS:
It's Always Something. (IAS)
I oppose the bringing of the infected here to our shores. That is insanity. What are they going to do with the plane? This is madness. Very bad for Franklin and the Baptists if it gets away.
Cantor may have resigned too soon...he might have been congressman for life!
I know. I just polished it up some.
What a way for the CDC to get better samples of a more vicious strain of Ebola.
Just imagine it loose among the ‘ferals’ in a place like Chicago. I suspect dealing with them wouldn’t be the easiest thing to do either.
BTW, check out the first ‘bullet’ point & the last caution (as it applies to your observation of certain members of the community):
Ebola virus is transmitted person-to-person by direct contact with infected blood, secretions, organs, or semen
§ An infected person can transmit the disease to others as long as virus particles are left in the blood, which may occur weeks after the person is feeling better. There is potential for an infected person to transmit Ebola to others after fully recovering from the illness.
§ If an Ebola virus-infected patient dies, the body remains infectious and must be handled with extreme caution.
§ Close contact with persons who are infected but who do not yet show signs of active disease is very unlikely to result in infection.
§ There is no evidence of airborne transmission of Ebola virus from human to human.
Avoid Ebola infection by avoiding contact with body fluids (blood, feces, urine, vomitus, etc.) of infected people. Men infected with Ebola virus should not have sex for 3 months or until tests show that semen is free of the virus.
Reminds me of my visit to Taiwan during the SARS epidemic. All deplaning passengers had to walk between a couple of infrared detectors that measured body temperature. Anyone with a fever was stopped.
