It was an extraordinary scene at City Hall Mayor de Blasio sitting between his police commissioner and the Rev. Al Sharpton, facing tough questions about police tactics after the death of a black man arrested by white cops.
And at one point, Sharpton made it personal. If Dante wasnt your son, hed be a candidate for a chokehold. And weve got to deal with that reality, Sharpton told the mayor.
I think that your ability to show some sensitivity is what raised hope and gave you the plurality that you got to become mayor. But now, I think weve got to go from that hope to actuality.
The mayor convened the sitdown to address anger in the minority community fueled by the case of Eric Garner, the Staten Island man who on July 17 was placed in an apparent chokehold by cops and then died.
The seating arrangements top cop Bill Bratton on de Blasios right, the outspoken Sharpton on his left symbolized de Blasios balancing act as he tries to keep crime under wraps while fulfilling his campaign vow to make cops sensitive to communities of color.
The mayor said his administration had been changing police conduct and would do more but he also issued a stirring defense of Bratton, calling him the finest police leader in the United States of America, period.

Just like clockwork....
Stupid is, as stupid does.
And then, when all the dust has settled,I'd go to court if I believed that I was unfairly or illegally treated during this incident.
To do otherwise is just asking for trouble.
De Blasio is a central american socialist. I highly doubt that he really cares about what the race pimp sharpton has to say. I’m surprised that de blasio didn’t have sharpton arrested on the spot. Thugs don’t like other thugs invading their turf.
Al is alllllllll about money money money. So anytime the city is responsible for a black persons death, especially when it involves cops, you can bet Al will be out there front of the line with his hand out.
When’s the last time this fool told black kids to stay in school? To strive to be the best they can be? To avoid gangs, to honor marriage and the family?
No, Al should take them to task.
It was a cop murder of an innocent harmless Black guy who was doing no wrong.
The shocking thing is Al is actually criticizing Democrat power structure for once and embarrassing them. They are truly guilty as hell.
What? You expect Al to do like Jesse Jackson, who ‘frowns upon’ knockout gamer? Noticed I didn’t say he condemned those doing these assaults, as with that white guy in Detroit who was almost killed after tapping a child with his car. Jesse “frowned upon’ that animalistic behavior. Probably because they were dumb enough to get caught.
He was massively overweight and it turned out that he had a heart condition, which was what caused his death. I agree that illegal cigarette sales on the street (which was what they got after him for) are not something that should be dealt with by force, though.
According to the news on the radio a bit ago, the coroner deemed the death a result of the chokehold
Expect de Blasio to offer lots of taxpayers' money to soothe Sharpton. After all, it's not de Blasio's money! This is nothing more than NYC kabuki.
As for Mr. Garner, he might well have been caught selling untaxed cigarettes in the past -- but AFAIK, there has been no evidence put forth that he was doing so at the time that the police killed him.
"Garners family said he didnt have any cigarettes on him or in his car at the time of his death."
“He was massively overweight and it turned out that he had a heart condition, which was what caused his death.”
Oh yeah, sure! So he’d be dead anyway? Your logic escapes me. That’s like saying the fright from the “bang” of the gun used to shoot someone “scared them to death.” Is it so hard for you to see what happened for what it really was, murder by cop?
Al trolling for money?
“Al trolling for money?”
__
Oh,yeah !!
.
rest of title: Sharpton want’s money because he’s Sharpton.
He resisted arrest. That’s what caused the heart attack.
My point is that it didn’t have to be an enormous use of force to cause his death. They had him on the ground but even handcuffing him in that position was probably enough to make it impossible for him to breathe and trigger a heart attack.
The police knew who the guy was and could have easily issued him a citation for allegedly selling single untaxed cigarettes. There was absolutely no need to arrest him at all. As predicted, under Progressive (aka communist) regimes the slightest crime will rise to the death penalty and everything will be declared a crime.
