Ben Carson Lays Groundwork for 2016 White House Bid

Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon and popular conservative writer and campaigner, has announced the formation of a political action committee to explore a possible 2016 presidential bid, The Washington Times reported.

Carson told the Times on Friday that he had selected Houston businessman, Terry Giles, to be his 2016 campaign chairman if he decides to run and that he has signed off on the set up of a PAC called One Nation that would support his bid.

"Now is the time to start all of the appropriate exploration and investigation, and put down the structure that is necessary," Carson said.

Carson stopped short of commenting on the likelihood that he will run but told the Times, "I would say we are definitely a step or two closer than we were a year ago."

He said one of the factors affecting his decision would be the results of the 2014 elections and whether the GOP will be successful in taking control of the Senate. His PAC, he said, will be supporting candidates in line with his political philosophy.

"Obviously we are very interested in what happens in November," he said, according to the Times. "And if the people also continue to show strong desire for me to run, obviously that would be an important factor too."

I agree with you...a disaster waiting to happen. But still better than any minute of OBAMA.

6 presidents never held public office before becoming president

1. George Washington

Irrelevant as he was the 1st President of new nation and has military experience.

2. Herbert Hoover

Hoover served in government as head of the Commerce Dept and Food Aid

3. Ulysus S. Grant, 5. Dwight D. Eisenhower, 6. Zachary Taylor

All three were military generals. It's U.S. tradition for generals to run for President. (Where the heck is your #4?)

7. William Howard Taft

Secretary of War, Solicitor General of the U.S.

Where is Ben Carson's experience in running a major government entity?

None. This is simply FReepers touting him because he's black.

You need the ability and the experience needed to lead a nation. It can be disastrous when the President has to learn how to do this on the job, and Obama is the poster boy for this.

Of your 6 Presidents, 4 of them were distinguished generals who had proved their ability to effectively lead entire armies in the field.

The other two served in the Cabinet before becoming President, and interestingly those two both got thrown out after being seen as failures in their first term.

Carson may have the ability, but I don’t think he has the experience needed to lead decisively where it matters most. Not yet. Run for something like Detroit mayor or the Michigan governorship first.

Have you heard the phrase ‘It doesn’t take a brain surgeon’?

Well, maybe this time it does! Surgery is a team activity. The amount of preparation and training it takes for a team of people to open a child’s skull makes politics look simple. America has a brain tumor.

I have listened to Carson say he wants to “replace Obamacare” and that was enough for me to say NO.

Obamacare must be repealed 100 percent with no replacement ala Romneycare like the GOPe wants.....

Might as well start with his CV.(Not sure how old it is)

I like him, but the devil is the details. I am willing to listen and learn. There is much we don’t know. I am especially curious about his foreign policy views.

Stop right there. Surgery is a SMALL-team activity, with a single person (the senior surgeon) in absolute charge with the ability to remove team members who will not accept his authority.

Contrast with government, where executives have to use persuasion to get cooperation. Totally different activities.

i worked on Cain's campaign in Virginia. His problem wasn't having previous experience in government. His problem was he couldn't keep his dick in his pants.

As far as insisting on professional politicians, how's that working out for you?

The point made is not relevant as Palin has zero chance of winning. She is smart enough to know that and likely will not run.
