Ben Carson Lays Groundwork for 2016 White House Bid

Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon and popular conservative writer and campaigner, has announced the formation of a political action committee to explore a possible 2016 presidential bid, The Washington Times reported.

Carson told the Times on Friday that he had selected Houston businessman, Terry Giles, to be his 2016 campaign chairman if he decides to run and that he has signed off on the set up of a PAC called One Nation that would support his bid.

"Now is the time to start all of the appropriate exploration and investigation, and put down the structure that is necessary," Carson said.

Carson stopped short of commenting on the likelihood that he will run but told the Times, "I would say we are definitely a step or two closer than we were a year ago."

He said one of the factors affecting his decision would be the results of the 2014 elections and whether the GOP will be successful in taking control of the Senate. His PAC, he said, will be supporting candidates in line with his political philosophy.

"Obviously we are very interested in what happens in November," he said, according to the Times. "And if the people also continue to show strong desire for me to run, obviously that would be an important factor too."

As far as insisting on professional politicians, how's that working out for you?

Who said I support professional politicians?

Carson is running for President. It is very difficult for private citizens to run for President. When was the last time a true private citizen ever ran for President, other than Perot in 1992? That's all I'm saying. Start at Congress or even the state office and work your way up, for crying out loud. The WH can't be bought.

The point made is not relevant as Palin has zero chance of winning.

This very point right here is simply opinion.

Palin was elected 2x to city council, Mayor, appointed to state agency, elected Governor, and was VP nominee.

She served in government and has a record. Carson and Cain did not.

Terrible on 2A.

Dr Ben Carson on The Second Amendment:

“But the real reason that they put it [2nd Amendment] there is recognizing that there could come a time when our government itself could go off the rail, and could try to dominate the people, and the people would need a mechanism of defense for themselves."

“I would never allow the Second Amendment to be jeopardized.”

"I used to think they (guns) needed to be registered, but if you register them they just come and find you and take your guns."

"If we were only concerned about external forces, then we would be okay, but there are some pretty sinister internal forces."

"I truly believe in Second Amendment rights. I would never advocate anything to interfere with Second Amendment rights; however, I do think we have to be intelligent." "We need to engage in a discussion about, 'Is there something we can do?'" (about keeping guns away from criminals and mentally ill people.)

"We have to keep in mind that law-abiding American citizens absolutely should have gun rights."

“To threaten the Second Amendment rights of ordinary American citizens is itself insanity. Those wishing to ban all assault weapons fail to understand the original intent of the Second Amendment.”

"What we need to be able to do is to sit down and have a discussion about, 'Is there a way to ameliorate that situation and is there a way to keep weapons out of the hands of people who are mentally ill without compromising any provision of the second amendment.'"

His position lacks maturity, but is common sense nonetheless: there are people in society that do not need to have a right to guns. John Hinckley Jr and his Ilk, MS-13, and persons predisposed for violence and lack of respect for the law, to name a few. Your statement is refuted because his position isn't "terrible".

You got that right. I don’t understand the hype surrounding Ben Carson. So he’s apparently a conservative doctor. Uh. Maybe I’d like to see if he can actually lead something before I elect him President of the United States of America. Is that asking too much? Apparently. Maybe I should write a few books, make some speeches, and run for president, too.

Note: I didn’t like it when the Democrats nominated someone with zero executive experience and no track record of successful leadership. Why should I applaud when Republicans want to do the same.

Secretary of health and human services or surgeon general.

I agree, I don’t vote on race alone, and he has to start somewhere first before POTUS.

We have an amateur in the POTUS now and you can tell its hurting this country and Americans.

Washington, Grant, Eisenhower and Taylor were all commanders of victorious armies. Hoover was Secretary of Commerce under two presidents, which is a public office, if not an elected one. Taft served as the Provisional Governor of Cuba, also an unelected public office.

Ben Carson has run part of a hospital.

Sorry, no sale.

I am sick of professional politicians. I like Sarah because she was conservative and was true to who she was. I like Dr Carson for the same reasons.

I know that he will have a learning curve to contend with, but if he is good at reading character, and is able to choose qualified conservative people who are experienced in the various fields needed to run his administration (i.e. military, economic, foreign policy) - then I am willing to give him a chance. The “vetting” process is the primaries - the media has already, or will turn all their guns on Dr Carson the second they think he is an actual viable candidate.

If he cannot handle it, it will become apparent fairly quickly. But, as of right now, I like him. He seems honest, conservative, intelligent, has guts, and appears willing to stay true to his beliefs.

As to experience at running something in the real world, I don’t know what his responsibilities are as the Division Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at John Hopkins - but it sounds like he must not be a total idiot to have gotten where he is.

Especially retirees who want to suddenly be President of the United States of America, it is frivolous and a distracting trivialization of our process, of trying to pick the conservative who can win the Presidency.

There is an abyss in character between Barky and Dr Carson. It is an insult to even compare them.

A man of God needs no try out because he is a principled man, and smart enough to surround him with other capable men.

To suggest he needs experience in a government full of professional politicians (that are abject failures), dismisses what God has already done in his life.

He strikes me as a fast read that doesn't over-complicate issues because of a solid biblically-based foundation. Something America has been missing.

One of your quotes was Carson advocating for his idea of “gun control zones”. The guy is all over the place and goes whichever way the political blow.

See below.

Ben Carson previously stated that the right to possess semi-automatic weapons should be dependent on location and should be banned in heavily populated areas.

“I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” he said in an earlier interview.

Carson said, in his interpretation, the Second Amendment was designed to “give the populous the ability to assist the military in case of a foreign invasion,” a definition which would seem to contradict the absolutist view of an unfettered individual right to bear arms.

The Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto mentioned previous comments of Carson’s in which he gave an urban/rural distinction on gun rights. Carson had suggested that he would not want a crazy person to have a chance to get a semiautomatic rifle in high-density urban areas, while not having a problem with someone living alone in the countryside with those guns.
“Do you think the Supreme Court was wrong when it found that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep arms in Washington, D.C., and Chicago?” Taranto asked.
“I truly believe in Second Amendment rights,” Carson said. “I would never advocate anything to interfere with Second Amendment rights; however, I do think we have to be intelligent.”
He said his point in saying that was to address situations—like in Detroit—where people with AK-47s are mowing people down.
“We need to engage in a discussion about, ‘Is there something we can do?’”

Palin and Cruz are not even thinking about running. What else you got?

The math is this: 18% of the black vote equals= NO WAY ANY DEMOCRAT CAN WIN.
