Each new climate-change study seems more pessimistic than the last. This May and June, for example, were the hottest ones on record for the planet.
Effective countermeasures now could actually ward off many of these threats at relatively modest cost. Yet despite a robust scientific consensus that greenhouse gas emissions are at the root of the problem, legislation to curb them has gone nowhere in Congress. In response, President Obama has proposed stricter regulations on electric utilities, which some scientists warn may be too little, too late.
Why aren’t we demanding more forceful action? One reason may be the frequent incantation of a motley collection of myths, each one rooted in bad economics:
Myth 1: The enormous uncertainty of climate science argues for a wait-and-see strategy.
Myth 2: Slowing the pace of climate change would be prohibitively difficult.
Myth 3: A carbon tax would destroy jobs.
Myth 4: The cost of reducing CO2 emissions would be prohibitively high.
Myth 5: It’s pointless for Americans to reduce CO2 emissions, since unilateral action won’t solve global warming.
Myth 6: Penalizing greenhouse gas emissions would violate people’s freedom.
There’s still time to eliminate this catastrophic risk at surprisingly modest cost. If we fail to act, future historians may wonder from behind high sea walls why we allowed the more effective responses we could have pursued to be blocked by an easily debunked collection of myths.

Just for anyone's information. The atmosphere we breathe is composed of approximately 78% nitrogen. Approximately, 21% oxygen. The 1% left is composed of the minor gasses in the atmosphere of which carbon dioxide (CO2) comprises approximately .035% or 35 one-thousands of a percent.
The greenhouse gas catastrophe is a grand hoax. And, the low-information and the poorly educated with educations fall for it hook, line and sinker.
Last Friday we had a daytime high of 62 degrees just north of Denver. 2” of rain in 24 hours.
I deny global warming ( like 80% of those polled here). “Climate change” was a plan B but you don’t define it . You have no evidence just lies and conjecture. It is just an amorphous blob of nothing. We will not change anything based on a lie, Nothing!! These folks are kooks and the entire construction is collapsing. They are a Flat earth bunch.

I agree with your skepticism. In the upper Midwest, it was a very cold spring, and July was also cooler than normal in Minnesota. Just where do they go to find the “hottest year” on record for the planet?
They utter phrases such as this and expect everyone to genuflect before their dogmas.

You forgot H2O — water vapor is a big part of the 1%.
And to pour salt into the wound these alarmist peckerwoods call those who understand the *real* science "deniers." But they control the message through compromised media and institutions from the U.N. to national governments. Tyranny always hides just out of sight, waiting for the gullible to let down their guard.
They rely on the fact that none of us were around 1000 years ago to accurately log global temperatures. Even 1000 years would still be a tiny snapshot and it would require 10,000 or more before any real trends would begin to appear. Even that would be a short term trend in the overall age of the planet.
We can ask what the optimum temperature of the planet is but the global warming alarmists simply can’t say with any honesty.
Looking back over the 4.5 billion years of the planet, its been mostly warmer than it is now.
Did anyone notice the “myth” that’s missing from that list?
Myth 7 The earth has been cooling for the last 18 years.
Oh, wait. That’s not a myth. That’s right there in their own data.
Of course that data is not appropriate for their hockey sticks.
