Obama’s Impeachment Game
New York Times ^ | August 2, 2014 | By Ross Douthat

Over the last month, the Obama political apparatus — a close aide to the president, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the “independent” voices at MSNBC — has been talking nonstop about an alleged Republican plan to impeach the president.

But it isn’t happening in a vacuum, because even as his team plays the impeachment card with gusto, the president is contemplating — indeed, all but promising — an extraordinary abuse of office: the granting of temporary legal status, by executive fiat, to up to half the country’s population of illegal immigrants.

This is the tone of the media coverage right now: The president may get the occasional rebuke for impeachment-baiting, but what the White House wants to do on immigration is assumed to be reasonable, legitimate, within normal political bounds.

It is not: It would be lawless, reckless, a leap into the antidemocratic dark.

And an American political class that lets this Rubicon be crossed without demurral will deserve to live with the consequences for the republic, in what remains of this presidency and in presidencies yet to come.

Documentation File on the 2014 Impeachment of B. Hussein Obama, aka Barry Soetoro a former Foreign Student from Indonesia, and still a legal Citizen of the Sovereign Nation of Indonesia.

NOTE: It will be interesting to document responses of the NYT, (the Flagship Rag of the Democrat Brotherhood), as Obama continues to Arrogantly beg to be Impeached by Speaker “Blank Check” Boehner who has promised not to Impeach fellow traveler Obama.

Congress should have secret talks with the Pentagon and have this bastard imprisoned in solitary confinement until his term is over. Then try the bastard for treason

Obama is doing a preemptive strike. He is trying to inoculate himself against impeachment by getting the Reps to say they will not impeach him. When Obama legalizes the status of 6 million illegal aliens preventing deportation and providing them with work permits, SSNs, and the ability to travel in and out of this country, then the GOP will have to make the decision whether to impeach him or not.

Regardless of the political fallout, the GOP must impeach him to protect the Constitution. It won't matter that the Senate will not convict him. The GOP House must do its constitutional duty.

Why is this in the Times? Are they doing an “opposition” column, perhaps?

The GOP can’t impeach him until they get the Senate. That is, they can impeach him, but they can’t remove him from office. Bill Clinton was the only president ever impeached...and he served out his term, because the Senate wouldn’t remove him.

Bambi is pushing this because it revs up his idiot base.

“Hey, man, the white guys wanna impeach the first black president? Well I and all my dead friends are going to vote from the graveyard to prevent the Senate from getting a GOP majority and furthermore we’re going to contact our buddies the billionaires to give him a little extra walking around money...”

Presidents are granted broad powers over foreign policy, and they tend to push the envelope substantially in wartime. But domestic power grabs are usually modest in scope, and executive orders usually work around the margins of hotly contested issues.

This administration has been not only crashingly incompetent and harmful in foreign policy, it has been elaborately uninterested in advancing U.S. interests. We knew from the moment they took office that their focus would be on domestic affairs and the deliberate social engineering of the entire country. This is nothing more than an extension of that, an attempt to broaden the envelope of the acceptable to admit of rule by executive fiat.

At the moment it's just testing the water. Should the Republicans regain the Senate by a slim margin I could very well see 0bama doing this and daring Congress to do anything about it. They'll have the votes in the House for impeachment but barring any truly unprecedented turnaround, not the votes in the Senate to remove from office. At that point we play the defunding/shut down the government game that the administration has already won once.

LOL. Did you even comprehend my post #7? "Regardless of the political fallout, the GOP must impeach him to protect the Constitution. It won't matter that the Senate will not convict him. The GOP House must do its constitutional duty." Clinton was impeached, but the Senate failed to convict him. How is what I said any different than what you posted?

FYI: Andrew Johnson was also impeached. Clinton was the second President to be impeached. And conviction requires a two-thirds majority vote by the Senate. Even if the Reps gain control of the Senate, there is no way they will have a two-thirds majority.

Since Congress is presently divided, Congress cannot impeach Obama out of office. It is up to Constitution-impaired patriots to first make sure that there are 67 senators who are willing to vote Obama out of office should the House of Representatives decide to impeach him.

But “asleep at the wheel” patriots have so far missed the opportunities provided by the 2010 and 2012 elections to make sure that there are enough senators who are willing to kick Obama out of office. So patriots arguably have only themselves to blame since Obama presently cannot be impeached out of office.

The “patriots” are outnumbered by the other side. Obama has received more votes than any President in history, by far. Demography is destiny.

Me too. I’m wondering if this isn’t a rope a dope strategy to get the GOP to start impeachment, as a diversion to all the Obama fires currently burning. These are desperate times.

If republicans take the Senate by a slim margin, there will be enough party flips to ensure the Obama/Reid tyranny continues. The GOP needs a landslide to actually control the upper house.

"The “patriots” are outnumbered by the other side. Obama has received more votes than any President in history, by far."

Bear in mind that Obama might have resigned by this time because of the threat of a small number of impeachment votes if patriots had put some effort into makking sure that there were enough senators to vote Obama out of office if the House had impeached him.

Otherwise, one reason, besides alleged ballot stuffing, that Constitution-ignoring Obama has received more than any other president is because parents, for many generations, have not been making sure that their children are being taught about the federal government's constitutionally limited powers the way that the Founding States had intended for those powers to be understood.

As a side note about impeachement, consider that the threat of impeachment would probably be more real for corrupt presidents like Obama if state lawmakers had never ratified the ill-conceived 17th Amendment.
