Obama’s Impeachment Game
New York Times ^ | August 2, 2014 | By Ross Douthat

Posted on 08/02/2014 2:57:02 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

Over the last month, the Obama political apparatus — a close aide to the president, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the “independent” voices at MSNBC — has been talking nonstop about an alleged Republican plan to impeach the president.

But it isn’t happening in a vacuum, because even as his team plays the impeachment card with gusto, the president is contemplating — indeed, all but promising — an extraordinary abuse of office: the granting of temporary legal status, by executive fiat, to up to half the country’s population of illegal immigrants.

This is the tone of the media coverage right now: The president may get the occasional rebuke for impeachment-baiting, but what the White House wants to do on immigration is assumed to be reasonable, legitimate, within normal political bounds.

It is not: It would be lawless, reckless, a leap into the antidemocratic dark.

And an American political class that lets this Rubicon be crossed without demurral will deserve to live with the consequences for the republic, in what remains of this presidency and in presidencies yet to come.

Ping to self:

An American political class that lets this Rubicon be crossed without demurral will deserve to live with the consequences for the republic.

Julius Caesar courted popularity so successfully that Rome gave him an army, and that army gave him Rome.

The benefit of an impeachment would be the airing/disclosure of Obama’s high crimes. Since the old media are complicit in the cover-up, articles of impeachment rather than a nonexistent news chronicle will serve as the permanent historical record of His presidency.

If they don't impeach him, I suggest we do this.

You mean that you don’t think there will be a flip or two the other way? There’s and indy in ME that would likely come aboard, and with the political pole that Obama has thoroughly greased for many Dims in 2016, there may be at least a few (D) Senators who vote for impeachment if for no other reason, to tell their PO’d constituents that they did!
If hopefully, November sees something like nine or ten more seats going to the R side, this is a strong possibility.

If a soldier obeys an illegal order, he faces a court martial. Any “law” Obama “issues” is an illegal law. We should just ignore them.

Ross Douthat is the NYT conservative columnist along with alleged conservative David Brooks. Douhat dabbles in religion and political commentary and appears to be more consistently (and intellectually) conservative in his opinion pieces. He is the only reason I can think of to read the NYT if indeed there is any reason at all to do so.

Follow the comments; most libs hate him.

If the 6 million illegals can be “legalized” by executive fiat now, they can just as easily by “illegalized” by the next executive.

Wrong.

No, amnesty is really forever. It would be almost impossible to unring that bell. Do you think any of those 560,000 DACA recipients are going to have their legalization revoked?

Douthat is the "House conservative" at the New York Times (he writes movie reviews for National Review). David Brooks used to be that before he came down with a terminal case of Obama-worship, which rotted his brain away.

Andrew Johnson wasn’t convicted. The Senate was one vote shy of removing Johnson from office.

IMPEACHMENT--THE LAST REFUGE OF A SCOUNDREL Late July's survey found that only 38% of the public approves of the job Obama is doing, while 53% disapprove......a 10-point negative swing in just the past month. ...it becomes clear that the Border Crisis is driving this sharp decline FAR ABOVE ALL OTHER ISSUES---b/c views on the economy and direction of the country have barely budged.....

DEMOCRATS WISHING ON A STAR FOR IMPEACHMENT Senior Obama Adviser Dan Pfeiffer told reporters at a CSM breakfast that it's possible that Obama could be impeached by the Republican-controlled House....b/c Boehner's lawsuit "opened the door" to impeachment. Obama Press Secretary Josh Earnest was coached to say "prominent voices in the Republican party" have called for impeachment.

"I hereby impeach you."

ROTFLOL---Desperate Dummycrats are resurrecting the impeachment bugaboo to raise shady money.....actually raising monies for impeachment from diehard Obama suckups.

The impeachment gambit----and Obama's obsessive non-stop fund raising----is beginning to look sinister. The world smolders but the Dumbcrat ding-a-lings are wishing on a star for impeachment.

=========================================

REALITY CHECK Could this be a WH/Democrat Ponzi scheme in progress?

While they bash Wall Street publicly, leaders of the Democrats' mega-funder "The Democracy Alliance" have quietly recruited venture capitalists, bankers and hedge fund moguls -- along with union bosses and red-diaper trust fund babies -- to fund their takeover goals. ....$230,000 public school union dues go to the Democrats' "Democracy Alliance."

"The Democracy Alliance" does not itself raise and spend a great deal of money. Rather, being a partner in the Alliance requires one to contribute large amounts to other left-wing groups. The Alliance evaluates left-wing organizations on various criteria, and makes recommendations to its members as to where they should put their money. Currently, the Alliance lists 21 groups in its “Aligned Network”:

<><> America Votes, American Constitution Society, Black Civic Engagement Fund, Brennan Center, Catalyst, Center for American Progress, Center for Community Change, Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, Common Purpose Project, Fund for the Republic, Latino Engagement Fund, Media Matters for America, New Media Ventures, New Organizing Institute, Organizing For Action, Progressive Majority, Progress Now, State Engagement Initiative, State Voices, Women’s Equality Center and Youth Engagement Fund.<><>

The most interesting of the D/A documents that have come to light is the one that contains D/A’s “investment recommendations” for 2014. Not only does it list the recommended organizations, but it rates each organization in several categories, sets out the group’s budget for 2014, and shows how much of that budget should be contributed by the 100 members of the "Democracy Alliance." One category in which DA rates the organizations is “Collaboration,” as DA believes that all left-wing groups should coordinate their activities for maximum political impact.

Opportunistic pols like Harry Reid have denounced Charles and David Koch, and others, who contribute to conservative causes as “shadowy,” “secretive” people who dare infest politics with “dark money.”

In that context, it is worth noting that most of the groups to which the Alliance and its elite liberal members contribute are 501(c)(4)s that do not disclose their donors.

===============================================

ANALYSIS Buncha sap-happy Dummy/dopes are feeding the Democrats' Democracy Alliance lotsa money---thinking its safe.....going to a "good thing."

That's exactly how Madoff operated. Money-laundering, tax evasion was part of the Madoff mix---helping investors, foundations, and tax-exempts break the law in a seemingly legal way.

=====================================================

Madoff helped himself to the untraceable money in the process.....and got himself in trouble. When he went to jail for 125 years, investigators found Ponzi King Madoff had stashed billions offshore---into a labyrinth of financial entities.

COLLUSION AND CONSPIRACIES GALORE Some $8.9 billion was funneled to Madoff through a dozen so-called feeder funds based in Europe, the Caribbean and Central America......a labyrinth of hedge funds, management companies and service providers that, to unsuspecting outsiders, seemed to compose a formidable system of checks and balances.

But the purpose of this complex financial architecture was just the opposite: the feeder funds provided different modes for directing money to Madoff in order to avoid scrutiny.

Dummycrats apparently took notes.

Congress should have secret talks with the Pentagon and have this bastard imprisoned in solitary confinement until his term is over. Then try the bastard for treason

You don't get it; congress approves — just like with immigration, it gets to wring its hands and wail, all the while giddily pleased at what's happening.
This is the ONLY explanation that makes sense; they have the power to gut the executive (via the purse-strings) this was mentioned several times when the NSA's domestic espionage came to light but that, like everything else came to nothing. Judicial Watch has done more to rein in the executive than the Congress has.
