The Army has selected a new camouflage pattern to begin fielding next year, an unidentified senior Army spokesperson announced in a statement late Thursday.
The Army has confirmed through testing that the pattern would offer exceptional concealment, which directly enhances force protection and survivability for Soldiers, according to the statement from the Army.
The pattern will be used in all combatant commands, including Afghanistan, the Army said. Uniforms and equipment with the existing pattern wont be discarded, but replaced only as they wear out.
The pattern was developed by the Army under the name Scorpion W2 to replace the much-maligned Universal Camouflage Pattern, a pixelated combination of green, gray and tan that some soldiers said provided bad concealment in most places.

Sorry I expected pink...
I liked the Vietnam Tiger stripe myself.
A Gilly suit for everybody. LOL
I was reading the history of my Father’s WWII outfit and one thing caught my interest.
Their commander sent several hundred boots in for repair. I suspect that they would just throw them away now.
guessing an Zero donor needs some revenue to be donated back to the Rats......
What the best camo is, will depend so much on where the troops garbed in it are deployed. Why does there have to be just one pattern? Uniforms surely can’t be so pricey that there can not be a choice of patterns for various missions, just like there is a choice of weaponry.
New? Looks like the older, old pattern.
When I was in the Corps in the 80's every branch wore the same one. The head gear differed though.
Made in China, too?
It probably is about as good as any for woodlands.
I just glanced at my “Realtree” overalls hanging on a chair and there is a lot of difference and I think for this area the Realtree is better.
If not in El Salvador
Commercial camos are probably best, just because they have to make it in the market.
Right now most of the activity is in the Middle East where they don’t have a lot of woodlands. Is this one more attempt to come up with a compromise that will work in both desert and woodland?
Yep, looks strikingly similar to the original nomex version of the BDU I wore back in the late 90s. Third uniform change for the Army in less than a decade...but, hey, DoD uniform contractors gotta eat too.
True but why can't all the services wear the same pattern of green, brown etc? Each branch having their own style is very costly. When I was in all the services wore the same style, be it green or brown.
Very much so, 'specially doen at the trouser leg.
Probably vast warehouses full of the old ripstop stuff still unused.
How not to be seen
But what is the gay angle? There must be something gay. The only things that happen have something to do with gayness.
