In World War II, which we won incidently, servicemen wore the drab solid tones of their respective branches. They didn’t try to look like a tree or a rock.

For a short while, Americans wore camouflage during the hedge fighting in the days following the Normandy landings. It was the same pattern worn by our Marines in the Pacific theater. They stopped wearing it because it looked too much like SS flektarn camo.
