Wow, Obama really has brought change. A credit rating downgrade for the first time ever; and now Ebola on our shores.
Real hope and change.

I find it totally baffling why these two patients weren't flown to a remote ; offshore island instead on brought to our shores. Seems that prudent risk management would have keep them off the mainland USA.

Well, it's not even on Joe Six Pack's radar. I brought it up to a group of gymnastics moms while I was waiting for my son's parkour class yesterday. It was a group of about six of them. None of them had a clue. As expected they looked at me like I had just admitted to keeping aliens locked in my basement for even bringing such a thing up. (I figured that would be the response but, sometimes, I just can't help it). I think I got one or two, "Ewww that's scary. But did you see there is a new Cafe 57 opening?" type responses.

People have been lobotomized.

That’s exactly what is not being reported. How did the 2 Americans contract the Ebola virus if they were taking all these precautions and still got it anyways? So much for it not being a concern and not easily transmitted right?

How are you sure about that? Blood bourne disease is contagious from mosquitos.

Possibly their lack of concern or confidence with their stupidity is more due to not wanting to cause a panic, so in their mind lying is justifiable “for the greater good”. We’ve heard that before right?

Yes I would be worried. Not knowing who is preparing the food as the ebola virus can survive on surfaces for 3-4 days and longer in ideal circumstances.

"I think we could contain it," he said. "We have very good isolation procedures here."

As easily contained as, say, illegal immigrants?

But who would have the authority to do that?

WHO.

Now wait just a darn minute......

LOL!

Do a little Internet research. It isn’t rocket science. Many mosquitoes don’t transmit diseases at all. Only certain species of mosquitoes transmit diseases and, even then, there are only a few diseases which they can transmit. There is no species of mosquito which will transmit Ebola. It’s just not the way it works.

Yikes. I remember one summer, years ago, the fleas were the worst. Even in my mother-in-law’s immaculate home we were getting bit by fleas because she let her cat go out.

My friend, who also let her cats go out, and one was allergic so she couldn’t use any of the usual stuff on it, actually called the Bronx Zoo and talked to the bug guy. He spoke to her for an hour, I think, and at the end she was basically a flea expert.

Nobody got typhus though, thank goodness!

There’s a vast difference between HIV and Ebola. HIV is a slow-acting disease in comparison to Ebola. The fact that a person with HiV can take years to feel symptoms or some kind of debilitating effects means that someone can infect countless people. With Ebola, it’s somewhat limited. The longest holdouts before showin symptoms are around 21 days, but these are rare: it’s usually less. Then with your mass organ failure and dissolving blood vessels, you’re hardly able to do anything. Spread of Ebola is limited even in Africa because it kills too effectively. It quickly shows up that you have a bunch if corpses around and therefore need a quarantine.

The time frame over which most Ebola infectees get sick and die makes containment easy. Ebola or not, if you have a bunch of corpses lying around in a few days. The area gets containment protocol. The airport gets containment. They will test people with flu symptoms pretty fast. Besides, flu infectees shouldn’t be walking about anyways.

The spread of Ebola is especially limited in
Africa because it kills so effectively, give it a chance
to reach modern travel hubs and large population centers
and it will be limited no longer and quarantines will do
little good, except perhaps to quarantine those still
uninfected to save the few who will have to rebuild.
