Ebola fears swirl around US-Africa summit

A widening outbreak of deadly Ebola fever is threatening to overshadow next week's summit between African leaders and President Obama.

The three-day conference will bring nearly 50 African officials to Washington, D.C. for an unprecedented gathering that officials said could be a turning point in U.S.-Africa relations.

But now, Obama administration officials are competing with increasingly dire news out of West Africa, where Ebola is ravaging populations in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

At least two African leaders will forgo the conference as a result with the death toll topping 700.

And while the event's agenda has not changed, President Obama said Friday that some international guests will undergo additional screenings next week to ensure safety.

"We are taking the appropriate precautions," Obama said at a press conference.

Ebola can’t be transmitted through casual contact, yet I saw the ambulance driver yesterday in a hazmat suit, covered from head to toe.

There is really no reason to think that any of these central americans have ebola. Although I’m sure they carry plenty of other diseases.

As for some ebola carrier making the trip from Africa to Mexico and crossing the southern border, that too seems unlikely. These West Africans seem to be by and large poor people, I mean they hunt and eat bats! I can’t see too many of them having the resources to book a flight to Mexico.

But it doesn’t seem like the greatest time to invite 50 African leaders and who know how many staff members they’ll bring with them to come to DC.

The odds are good that none of those people will be sick, but the “optics” are just stupid. And what about the responsibility the Africans have to their own countries. OK, I know Africa is a big place and not everywhere there is having problems with ebola, but do they really need to come over hear and jaw-jaw with Obama?

George W. Bush did more for Africa than any other president, and he did it without having to have some big self-aggrandizing photo op.

“their local media—any of whom may have been in ebola areas”

That is a good point, yes those would be the most dangerous of the travelers.

This is exactly my point. If it can’t be spread by casual contact by can be by exchange of sweat urine or mucous, then what are they calling casual contact? Texting? One handshake and EBOLA! One sneeze and EBOLA! One gay sex extravaganza and EBOLLLAAAAAAAAAAA!

Info from Wikipedia (take with a grain of salt):

The disease may be acquired upon contact with blood or bodily fluids of an infected animal (commonly monkeys or fruit bats). It is not naturally transmitted through the air. They are, however, infectious as breathable 0.8–1.2 micrometre laboratory generated droplets; because of this potential route of infection, these viruses have been classified as Category A biological weapons.

Fruit bats are believed to carry and spread the virus without being affected. Once human infection occurs, the disease may spread between people as well. Male survivors may be able to transmit the disease via semen for nearly two months. In order to make the diagnoses, typically other diseases with similar symptoms such as malaria, cholera and other viral hemorrhagic fevers are first excluded. Blood samples may then be tested for viral antibodies, viral RNA, or the virus itself to confirm the diagnosis.

This sort of conference would usually be a bonanza for the prostitutes. I wonder what the word on the street is about it.

Thanks!

GW might have done more for Africa, but he did much harm introducing the Bush/McCain Amnesty Bill in 2007

We have never recovered from this betrayal.

Oh, agreed on that.

And speaking of Africans, here is an experience I had last year.

I was leaving a parking garage in JC and the guy at the booth was African. How do I know he was African? Well, I guess he was already rather Americanized, because he was having a private phone conversation while he was processing my fee. And he was speaking some completely strange language, I really do think it was one of those “clicking” african languages, because that’s how it sounded. I had never heard anything like it before, and I grew up in Multi-Culti manhattan and lived and worked in Multi-Culti Jersey City for 2 decades.

Now, he was a nice enough fellow (despite the phone call); probably in his 30s or so.

But I must ask - is this ANOTHER job Americans won’t do? Parking garage cashier? MUST we import people from Africa to do this rather simple job?

He doesn’t actually have to introduce ebola here - just make us all fear it. Remember - terrorism is about fear.

Bingo! And the Soros Administration is truly outdoing itself in this propaganda war.

For the corrupt elites who run these countries, job one is keeping themselves wealthy. They do not care about their people.

So true. Bush’s detestable treatment of the border crisis was a sad eye-opener for me after all of the faith I had placed in him and his administration. Such a betrayal. Can’t stand the sight of him anymore.

It's disturbing that several medical professionals who take all precautions got Ebola. Something must have changed and Ebola is spreading in ways it hasn't before.

Since the ptb can't possibly know what the extent of this increased threat, it's not believable when they say they know how to prevent its spread. And bringing it to DC, in August, just before schools open? That's insanity.

It would be common sense, not paranoia, to stay out of metro DC for the next month or so.
