UMWA vows to fight EPA

BLUEFIELD — Back in 1933, the struggling United Mine Workers of America union got a shot in the arm from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s “New Deal” legislation that allowed workers to organize into unions. That commitment from a Democratic administration tipped the playing field in the union’s direction, and within a short time, almost all coal mines in the two Virginias were organized.

From that time forward, most Democratic Party candidates could count on loyal UMWA support. That may not change in the future, but six years of more stringent environmental regulations governing coal-fired power generation emissions has put the UMWA in a path of opposition to the leadership that President Barak Obama appointed to the Environmental Protection Agency.

“If this EPA rule is approved, it will impact everything in the coalfields,” Joe Carter said. Carter is International Vice President of District 17, UMWA. “The rule of thumb is that we lose four jobs down stream for every one job lost in the coal industry. If the “Clean Power Plan” goes through, “it will cost $20 billion in lost wages and benefits from workers in the coal, rail and utility industries. Our communities can’t take that kind of a hit and survive.”

There are lots of organizations that need to learn that they don’t have any friends in this administration.

Nice thought, but how about fighting them BEFORE half of your brothers are out of work?

What I don’t get is why Republican candidates aren’t holding townhall meetings in these mining states/counties and telling these miners they need to rethink their voting.

Explain that a vote for any demonrat is a vote for owebama’s agenda.

Do the same thing in urban black areas buy explaining that their votes are putting the needs/wants of illegals ahead of their own. The illegals are getting free housing at the rate of $140 per person, per day. That should drive them nuts.

The minimum wage in Mexico is about $5...per DAY! The illegals will take all their jobs and work twice as hard for $7.25 hr. More illegals means they never get a raise.

This stuff isn’t complex or hard to explain, even a libtard can understand simple facts like that.

Moron rank and file had no idea what obama promised to do them. Trusted their leadership and will vote democratic ticket in November. UMWA prime candidate for Darwin award.
