Judging by the early numbers, the 2016 Republican presidential primaries will be another class and culture war, pitting the GOPs Sams Club base against the Republican country club elite. Think tea party vs. garden party. The fissures of education, income, region, and religion that took their collective toll on Mitt Romney will again weigh heavily on the battle for the Republican nomination. Age also looms as a wildcard, with a generational divide further shaping the contours of the contest. With few exceptions, the Republican establishment prevails over its base. Yet, 2016 may be different, as the GOP becomes ever more evangelical, Southern, blue collar, and alienated. True, the road and rules to the convention favor the Republican machinery, but even so, the rank and file must buy in if the plans of the partys elite are to work as imagined.

I sometimes wonder if I’m destined to support hopeless causes. My top tier candidates (in no particular order) are Mike Pence, Ted Cruz, Bobby Jindal, Rick Santorum, and Sarah Palin. (Well, actually, my “If I were king” ticket might be Antonin Scalia/Tony Perkins.) Didn’t see any of them mentioned.
Are we sure this wasn’t satire?
I would give that a 2/10 for trolling. They are not even trying very hard to jerk our chains.
In 2016 the average GOPe age will be somewhere around 107, while the age of tea party candidates will be in the 40s. So unless the GOPe has cryogenic frozen head technology in their bag of tricks, 2016 will be a good transition year.
2012 redux, except Christie playing the Fat Guy instead of Newt, and Paul, the Next Generation...
Who’ll play Bachman’s role?
Let’s telegraph it for Hillary.
What does he consider to be the “base,” exactly? Some middle class Evangelical soccer moms who would all vote Dem anyway?
Lard ass versus lard ass.
No thanks.
On his TV show yesterday, Huckabee lectured any conservatives who might have been watching not to use the term RINO.
