Checkpoint duty is almost universally despised by the Agents. Some of the old Agents, those that can’t hack the field anymore after over 20-yrs, sometimes 30-yrs, in the desert chasing and fighting disease-ridden, violent gangs, cartels and coyotes, those old guys appreciate the relatively quiet checkpoint life. The young guys, not so much..
The young guys hate it but they do catch a lot of illegal drugs and human smugglers.
Of all the feds, the Border Patrol Agents are the ones truly on the line, ‘out there,’ far from backup as they try to interdict cartels and rip crews (those that steal from the cartels), as well as stop the mexican army from escorting the smugglers. My son was injured by three illegal drug smugglers one night, had a stand off with the mexican army another night and on another night, shot a drug smuggler that tried to kill him.
Some do the job for a “payroll and [to] get a pension,” but not many.
Like the outdoor life, like being on your own, like riding horses or ATVs, then become a BP Agent.

Stopping and interdicting is very effective—when they are on the line doing their job instead of babysitting.
Besides, if they are “ineffective” then why do the cartels hire the mexican army to provide escort as they enter the US.
What is an epic colossal failure is some American people supporting the murdering illegal drug smugglers that attack (and sometimes succeed) in killing Border Patrol Agents. You see, cowardly US drug users break the law and fund cartels that violate American sovereignty. These same cowardly Americans are the same people that say we should seal the border against illegal aliens but at the same time use a drug that is carried into the US by those same illegal aliens (how do you think most illegal aliens pay the coyote?).
Not ten years ago. . .obama changed all that. Very effective is catching illegals and drug smugglers until the Zero came along.
The ugly truth is, the U.S. government never had any intention of securing our borders.

Regarding drugs, the U.S. government are up to their necks in drug money, and have created a huge industry surrounding it. If hundreds of tons of drugs can enter on a routine basis every several months, one can imagine what else can enter unabated.
The WOD is also a total farce, a scam created by government and a great excuse for government to grow even larger and larger and more controlling and on and on...This isn't even debatable.
