Chris McDaniel Formally Becomes the Defeated Tea Party Candidate That Won't Go Away
The Wire/Yahoo ^ | 07/04/2014 | Russell Berman

Tea Party hopeful Chris McDaniel lost his Republican primary challenge to six-term Sen. Thad Cochran in Mississippi on June 24. Cochran beat him by about 7,700 votes. On July 7, the state's Republican Party certified Cochran's victory.

Six weeks after the run-off election, McDaniel is having a tough time moving on.

On Monday, McDaniel, a state senator, announced he was formally challenging the results and asking the Mississippi Republican executive committee to declare him the party's nominee in the November general election.

"Justice has no timetable, and yet here we stand," McDaniel, 42, told reporters assembled at a press conference outside his headquarters in Jackson that was somewhat ominously interrupted by thunderclaps and a downpour. "They asked us to put up or shut up, and yet here are. Here we are with the evidence."

Since shortly after the run-off, McDaniel and his team have alleged that Cochran and his "race-baiting" allies stole the election by turning out Democrats who voted illegally in both the Democratic primary and the Republican run-off. The Cochran campaign did appeal to the largely Democratic population of African American voters in the state who were eligible to vote in the G.O.P. run-off if they had not earlier voted in their own party's primary.

But didn’t many of the counties block the books or simply destroy them?

How many voters voted Dem in the first round and then illegally crossed over to vote R?

That article says 3500.

My understanding was it might be much higher but the Supreme Court of the state refused to order the poll books turned over to McDaniel to prove it.

If the number is only 3500, I’d say very unlikely a new election will be ordered. Unless it’s a ‘slam dunk no brainer’ that illegalities led to the result, no new election will be ordered.

McDaniel could have regrouped and come back. Now he’s likely down for the count for his political career if this doesn’t work out.

The real ‘fraud’ was the establishment Republicans took money raised to ‘win the Senate’ and spent it defaming and attacking tea party patriots.

The uniparty continues in power sadly.

They’d have already passed amnesty on us but for Cantor’s loss.

Nothing like a headline that is an editorial.

You must not be familiar with Yahoo news. All their stories are left-wing slanted and I would say it is more than most.

“Nothing like a headline that is an editorial”

It’s newsworthy. I just saw it on the FOX Newswire.

I haven't heard of any books being destroyed. Some of the counties refused to produce the books until the voters' dates of birth and social security numbers were redacted-- a position that was upheld by the Mississippi Supreme Court-- but that just delayed McDaniel's review. He ultimately got all counties' records.

I’ve been waiting for weeks to find out when McDaniel finally gets access to all the records. I haven’t heard a thing about that yet, and I’ve been searching, but obviously you have found it. Could you please give me a hint as to where I can locate the proof you’ve found that he’s been able to access all the documents?

If I lived in MS, I would simply stay home in the general election and tell other conservatives to do so to.

Because the blacks that crossed over for Cochran sure as Hell aren't going to walk over broken glass to vote for him again. They won't even walk over thick, plush carpet.

One of my Senators was involved. I’m looking at the Independent/Libertarian candidates.

I’m assuming he got all the (redacted) poll books, because he has not claimed otherwise. If he still hadn’t gotten access, he would have brought that up in today’s press conference.

That’s a pretty big assumption on your part. Personally, I’d hold off making statements like that until I knew for sure. Which is why I asked you.
