New York patient ‘unlikely to have Ebola,’ Health Department says

A man who was tested for Ebola at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital on Monday is “unlikely” to have the virus, the city’s health department said.

“After consultation with CDC and Mount Sinai, the Health Department has concluded that the patient is unlikely to have Ebola,” the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said in a statement early Monday evening. “Specimens are being tested for common causes of illness and to definitively exclude Ebola.”

The male patient had come to the hospital’s emergency room early Monday morning with a high fever and gastrointestinal problems, according to the hospital. The man had recently visited a West African country where Ebola has been reported, the hospital said; he was “placed in strict isolation” and screened for the virus.

“All necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of all patients, visitors and staff,” the hospital said in a statement Monday afternoon. “We will continue to work closely with federal, state and city health officials to address and monitor this case, keep the community informed and provide the best quality care to all of our patients.”

Is the report coming from the ER nurses or the government? It makes a big difference...

A man who was tested for Ebola at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital on Monday is “unlikely” to have the virus, said the city’s health department and the great seer, soothsayer, and sage, Carnac the Magnificent.

Crap, there is no need to have any tests because it's "unlikely" that the man may have Ebola. It would have been nice if they gave us facts why the city's health department deems it "unlikely".

Ah yes. Newspeak. When the news speaks for itself. If they do not tell you the results, it is unlikely that he has Ebola.

It will take 1-2 days for the results to come back. Evidently, there have been six (or so) cases recently where an individual has returned here from an Ebola-stricken West African country with symptoms consistent with Ebola, but none of them had Ebola.

There were no test results at the time of release of the article, so he wasn't "tested" at that time. 24-48 hours required for results from the time samples were taken from him.
