Syfy Adapting Futuristic Military Drama 'Ghost Brigades' (Exclusive)(John Scalzi book series)

The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has put into development Ghost Brigades, a drama based on John Scalzi's Hugo-nominated Old Man's War universe book series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The NeverEnding Story's Wolfgang Petersen will oversee development on the project alongside Scott Stuber (Safe House), with Jake Thornton and Ben Lustig (Winter's Knight) on board to pen the first script. The drama hails from Universal Cable Productions, Petersen's Radiant Productions and Stuber's Bluegrass Films.

Ghost Brigades follows John Perry, who at 75 enlists in the Colonial Defense Force to fight a centuries-long war for man's expansion into the cosmos. Technology allows experiences and consciousness to be transplanted into younger bodies that are outfitted to endure the harsher rigors of war in space. However, soon after John arrives, he finds himself involved with a mysterious woman, and at the same time, at the center of an unraveling conspiracy involving an elite fighting force known as the Ghost Brigades.

If done right this could be terrific. I know Scalzi is a left-winger but this book series was terrific fun to read.

Bummer. ScyFi has a terrible track record creating watchable content. The books were good though.

I agree that this could be great, or a disaster. Scifi had a hit back in the day with Galactica. They were ahead of the current game for quality series, but lost their way bigtime with all the wrestling and reality nonsense. Talk has been that they want back in the game.

Very good books. Scalzi’s book Redshirts is a great read also and I think is being developed for TV.

I liked the first book, but the series steadily goes down hill as his leftist views increasingly color his writing. It seems that fantasy and Sci-Fi are dominated by liberals these days.

I always wonder how people write stories about characters that fight (real) oppression, use weapons, are self-disciplined, skilled, responsible, moral and ethical, yet expouse liberals ideals which are contrary to everything they have written.

(No leftist involvement) but it sounds like my reading of Herbert's Dune series. The second one was barely readable and I could never finished the third.
