Russia has called for emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday over what it called an urgent humanitarian situation in Ukraine, according to a report from the Russian news agency ITAR-TASS.

"We are convening an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine," Russian Ambassador to the U.N. Vitaly Churkin was quoted as saying.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said the U.N. and the International Committee of the Red Cross expressed "readiness" to discuss its plan to deploy a "humanitarian mission" to Ukraine, which some consider to be a pretext for an invasion by Russian forces.

Russia has significantly built up its troop presence along the Ukrainian border in recent weeks, according to U.S. officials, making it ready for a potential large-scale invasion of southeastern Ukraine if Russian President Vladimir Putin so chooses.

Things aren’t going well for Vlad in Ukraine — the Russian rebels in Donetsk and Luhansk are surrounded and he wants to send in his “peacekeepers” to reinforce them.

“Putin has invented a new one......”humanitarian attack””

No, Obama invented that one, in Libya. And before that, Clinton in Kosovo.

Have you already forgotten the “Humanitarian Bombing” bs?

Now that was interesting...

She was saying that the calling of an Emergency Meeting should be defined. They were already going to discuss this on Friday.

Any Security Council member can call for an Emergency meeting, at any time, for any reason.

Russia wanted a QUICK meeting, and this happened in three hours.
Was that not enough time to get Obama off the golf course to discuss this?
Is she missing a hot, after-work dinner date??

Russia is just calling these idiotic meetings for internal propaganda purposes. They will cut together a report and show their dumb TV viewers. As if Russia really thought UN security council is going to give them a permission to basically invade Ukraine under the guise of “peacekeeping”.

Perhaps this is why USA sent this boring woman instead of Ambassador Power - to not give this Russian farce any importance.

Pay attention to what Putin says in the next 24 hours.
There was a REASON they called this.

Interstingly, Argentina is supporting Russia’s position on this motion.

The only emergency I see is the eventual — not imminent — collapse of the rebel insurgents in the city of Donetsk unless Putin can reinforce them with his “peacekeepers”.

Putin needs to have more confidence in his thugs — and keep them from doing so much Tweeting.
