Russia will ban all imports of food from the United States and all fruit and vegetables from Europe, the state news agency reported on Wednesday, a sweeping response to Western sanctions imposed over its support for rebels in Ukraine.

The measures will hit consumers at home who rely on cheap imports, and on farmers in the West for whom Russia is a big market. Moscow is by far the biggest buyer of European fruit and vegetables and the second biggest importer of U.S. poultry.

To be honest, the only US exports I can see in Russia are cheap alcohol(mostly Cali wines), frozen chicken legs (aka “Bum fodder” or “Bush’s legs” after old Bush)-by far the most affordable food but it looks really awful, Jeep/Chrysler vehicles and civilian firearms (Remington rifles, Eothech sights).

True. On the other hand a volume of trade is really low between two countries.
It seems like Netherlands, Italy and Germany are major Russian trading partners.
It is quite a surprise to me that China is not even in top 3.

Do you think Obie could have come up with some way to punish Russia that didn’t involve shafting American farmers? Like, for example, 24/7 flyovers by drones with P.A. systems playing his “best” speeches....

Nah... that’d be a Geneva Convention violation...

Another bad day for you McGruff...
She cited a warning from Russia‘s own Central Bank that an already high inflation rate will climb even more with the ban on imported food.

If this were really about Ukraine, maybe they should have aided Ukraine instead of starting a trade war with Russia, which does not help Ukraine.

If this were about Ukraine we would have sent them help rebuilding their democratic institutions and showing them how a civil society should function and all that, plus do more than send some MRE’s. We would have offered to train new Ukraine troops in tactics to help secure their border...

oh wait, that is a lost art isn’t it?

I think China will soon be #1 if their enslaved population is made to grow what Russia wants now.
