From "impossible" to "highly unlikely" to "inevitable" in 24 hours.

And I'm supposed to believe them when they say "not very large"?

See post 39.

Those two won’t be what decides if America gets an Ebola breakout or not.

If was just about those two, then we wouldn’t have anything to worry about, instead we all understand what the real threat is, mass traveling and mass immigration and mass illegal immigration.

Nuh uh. Can’t be true. America is immune from such. Besides, they’ve assured us air travel is safe because it’s not an airborne disease so it can’t come in on international flights. And our hard working TSA officials are on the front lines helping screen passengers so all’s good. They’ve also said the widdle illegal kiddies and their mamas will be held at the detention centers for 23 days and that’s 2 days longer than when they ass-u-me ebola shows symptoms. Hands around the world. Kumbaya. Diversity. No worries. King obola will keep us safe.

Even if one of their own dies from it, they’ll do nothing but elevate him to hero status and talk about how brave he was for a week. He’ll be forgotten by the following week.

Ebola Zaire can be found in the semen for up to six weeks after infection.

I concur. The information we are getting is crap.

He’s not saying anything they have not said before. Why do you think we are screening incoming passengers?

39 years ago these outbreaks were in undeveloped areas of the Congo and elsewhere in west Africa. This last and current event occurred in a area that has more access to transportation then they did 39 years ago. Add to this that more and more outsiders are living or working with NGO’s in these areas, thus they travel back to their home countries, usually by air now.

It is quite conceivable, therefore that someone could get through screening with no symptoms and subsequently show those symptoms after arriving at home or where ever they went within the continental US.

So yeah, for all the reasons I stated above, and several more, a Ebola infection in the US is numerically inevitable.

But I note that he did not say that it would be followed by a outbreak of the disease!

In fact, he shot that idea down, as he should because it’s true. Any infection here would have to remain isolated because of out awareness and infrastructure. As it often does in other developed countries when and if it occurs.

Just had one in Saudi Arabia...It would be the same here.

The risk of having someone infected manage to get into the US is pretty high, probably 100% over time.

But the risk that this would pose to us in regard to a uncontrolled outbreak in a population is very, very low, not zero, because nothing ever is, but very, very low.

The current outbreak isn’t the Zaire strain that kills up to 90%, it’s “only” the strain that kills about 50%

It is the Zaire strain. The strain used to kill more people 39 years ago. because of increased availability of medical care, they have reduced it to 60% or lower..

Barry doing his Agenda 21 duty. Importing devastating infectious diseases, couldn’t get away with it in the first term so now it’s full steam ahead. Good grief! Isn’t anybody paying attention? This is so obvious it’s moronic.

C’mon people, wake the f**k up!

Liberals were having a lot of fun with it, saying basically racist Republicans were in a panic about Ebola coming here and going on about how hard Ebola is to catch. Making light of any concern, I don’t have actual links- it was just a trend on MSM and comedians for like a week. One said Republicans were afraid to fly because it was brought up that with so much air travel from areas with Ebola it could be a concern.

Hopefully it will hit hardest in the “Progressive” areas.

Why wouldn't it?

>I find it odd the swine flu scare response vs Ebola. <

Which is another of many reasons why I’m concerned.

Bird flu, everybody panic. Swine flu, everybody panic.

Ebola. Nothing to worry about.

Just think about schools. You know how those are germ factories. Kids bring home illness from school all the time.

Dependent on the number of illegal aliens coming across our border from Mexico that are from West Africa, eventually we will have a case of Ebola here in the USA and perhaps it has already happened. We do not know and our government does not know at this time.

Actually we will know when Mexico seals its borders to the South in Central America. They will be brutal, ruthless and effective. When that happens we will know Ebola has arrived via Central America through Mexico.

Ebola's spread to the United States is "inevitable" due to the nature of global airline travel, but any outbreak is not likely to be large, US health authorities said Thursday.

Does nobody get how off and eye opening this statement is, from an organization that is all about controlling panic and information during a pandemic?

First, just 2 or 3 days ago the CDC chief was saying that Ebola was not a threat to America and we were so superior to Africans we would have not problem if by some small chance it did make it here and now we have a statement that it is inevitable it will get here because of air travel!

This is a very unusual and political statement and one that needs to be paid close attention too. They had a political reason for this mostly silent organization to go on the record before the first case gets reported.

It has already spread by air travel and not just by the guy that flew to Nigeria and they know it so this is misdirection. Has it come across the boarder and this is a preemptive strike to stop the political back lash against illegals, before the first case is finally reported to the public, that Ebola coming across our wide open borders that Obama refuses to uphold the laws on.... better to blame air travel than illegals politically(at least for the dems it is)?

What other past administration can you think of that would not have by now stopped all flights to that part of Africa and surrounding countries by now? This level virus is always a containment situation...UNTIL NOW! WHY??? That is a political decision and so one must ask why we are allowing this disease to spread world wide by not closing off those countries. Someone in power has a reason.

The CDC does not do this much of an about face in 2 days unless they know something is about ready to get out in the press....

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I’d say any disease that can make your internal organs shut down and stop working resulting in death with a fatality rate between 60 -90 % should be taken pretty seriously.
