President Barack Obama stepped in front of the cameras on Thursday to utter words he hoped he would never say as commander in chief.
"I've therefore authorized targeted airstrikes if necessary to help forces in Iraq," Mr. Obama said in a statement from the White House. "Today America is coming to help."
The return to military engagement in Iraq is a reversal for Mr. Obama, whose early opposition to the war that toppled Saddam Hussein, and his promise to end it, fueled his long-shot campaign for the White House.

I do believe he’s starting to feel the heat.
So I guess flashing his Nobel prize before hitting the golf course wasn’t enough.
Renewing the Iraq Status of Forces Agreement would have prevented all this bloodshed.
“Policy reversal” is tantamount to defeat.
De feet which then get held to de fire.
I had not thought it was possible for the Current Occupant to respond to pressure for some policy he did not like. Maybe Valerie Jarrett finally got the memo.
Now THAT would be pressure.
I still think there was a mutiny, and the after-the-fact “authorization” of strikes was to cover his butt. There’s no other explanation for why they denied the strikes before they “authorized” them.
Obama created the problem.
What’s the point of explaining a ‘reversal’ of views or policies?
1. “O” would just say he never said that in the FIRST place
2. “O” wouldn’t remember IF he said anything in the FIRST place (but the default mode for him is LIE)
3. “O” only does what he’s programmed by Valerie, TO do...so what does anything like a ‘reversal’ matter?
4. “O” can’t spell ‘reversal’ and doesn’t know what it means
Its less than 100 days before an election. He had no choice....

The Joint Chiefs all seem to agree this is gonna take boots on the ground.
