Both Germany and Japan were cohesive relatively united countries with one main religion. Also McArthur really understood the Japanese mentality and other Europeans understood German. Totally unlike the religously split, held together by terror mess in Iraq.

Many of the trouble spots in the world are the legacy of the colonial period when European colonial powers divided and mixed together warring factions to rule more easily. There ought to be an international conference to redraw the lines, with some system to redistribute the goodies, especially those underground to the fair benefit of the resulting countries.

I have read your Wiki link and I think you are exagerating the problem. Here is what it says about his Communism.

“Masum joined the Iraqi Communist Party in 1962, until 1964, where he travelled to Syria to meet the Communist Party secretary there, Khalid Bakdash.[4] After Masum discovered Bakdash’s attitudes against the Kurds, he quit the party to join the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK).[7]”

He has been totaly involved with Kurdish politics and issues ever since. In 1962 he was 24. He is now 76 and may be more sensible now. By all means read the link for more info.

Germany was wracked with religious war during the 17th century. 30 years of it... Catholics v. Protestants.

Yes, I heard them chanting outside Iraq’s parliamentary offices:

” Al-Ibadi, Al-Ibadi , he’s the next best man to the Madhi!”

I then had an immediate feeling that this would NOT end well!
