Russia sending aid convoy to Ukraine despite Western warnings of invasion pretext

President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Russia is sending an aid convoy to eastern Ukraine despite urgent Western warnings against using humanitarian help as a pretext for an invasion.

With Ukraine reporting Russia has massed 45,000 troops on its border, NATO said there was a "high probability" that Moscow could intervene militarily in the country's east, where Kiev forces are closing in on pro-Russian separatists.

Read a report that the food and water drop in Iraq onto the mountain was rendered useless for consumption due to hard landings. Do not know this to be accurate or inaccurate but bet russian leadership got a good laugh and perhaps putin said let's put on a show for the zer0 and his clown posse. Can't find anything good to say about either of these two (zer0 and putin). Both are nothing but Trouble (with a big 'T')

In the story I posted:

They note that Obama called Poroshenko directly, after which Poro said they would let it through.

Easy to imply from that that Poro was TOLD to let it through.

You're a dufus who doesn't even know what he's talking about. The Ukrainians agreed to the humanitarian aid provided it went through Ukrainian controlled border entries, was done with international organizations, and consisted of no Russkie military aid.

Thus you're whole "Ukraine is being TOLD what to do by my God and master Putin" is just stupid, just like you.

lol....
Now you are just trolling.

Explain this, then:

The Kremlin earlier announced that it was dispatching the humanitarian convoy into eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine had previously objected to Russia sending any aid into the region, and the West had strongly warned Russia that any attempt to send its military personnel into Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian assistance would be seen as an invasion.

In the last week, Ukrainian government forces have been closing in on the few remaining pro-Russian rebel strongholds in eastern Ukraine, including surrounding Donetsk, the largest city in rebel-held city. Hundreds of thousands have been fleeing the fighting.

Shortly after the Kremlin statement, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko got on a phone call with President Barack Obama, according to their offices.

In all fairness, he meant Obama telling Poroshenko, not Putin. Otherwise, I agree with your assessment. The plot is for Russians to get “legal” access to rebel-held land across the border for continuing supply of murderers and weapons. Civilians be damned - Russians never cared even for their own.

As usual, Putin uses half-truths to push the lie. The original idea was for internationally led aid, with Russia as but one component of it, to enter Ukraine and provide actual humanitarian aid to the population that has been tormented by Russian terrorists. This included the involvement of the Red Cross. Russia has now changed the deal, as they are wont to do, and claim that the deal was always that they would alone send an aid convoy at that the Red Cross was o.k. with this. That is entirely false.

Russia will now use the pretext of aid to send in the several hundred armored “peace keeper” vehicles and several thousand “peace keeping” troops they have stage at Ukraine’s border. No party, other than Russia, is on board with this idea, since it is quite obviously an invasion force that will do nothing but bring more misery to Ukraine. See Georgia, August 2008.

I really do not see how anyone can say with a straight face that Russia is not seeking to invade Ukraine at this point.

They are having a tough time with a rag tag group of rebels. They'd look like the Iraqi army against the Russians.

As one of the rebel commanders said when asked if the Russians had invaded, "if they did we'd be fighting in Kyiv right now".

From the classical Kantian perspective, we only have direct moral obligations to persons, defined as rational people with self control. A Putinist is not a person, and therefore, we need not worry about being nice to them. It is like being nice to a rock, or to rats. From a Utilitarian perspective, anyone who can experience pain or pleasure has some kind of moral standing. Putinists, however, only experience degraded pleasures, like the pleasure from treachery or lying. No matter how I approach it, I can’t think of a good reason to be very nice to them.

When the Russians invaded Georgia, they never made it to Tblisi. They turned around and retreated. Now that the same rabid psychopathic gang of Cossaks and Chechens from Russia has invaded Ukraine, they’ll never even make it to the Dnieper River, much less take Kiev.

The propaganda from BOTH sides is the work of fantasy.

It's still the policy of Free Republic that there will be no personal attacks.

It's incumbent on both of you to honor that policy.

If you have a gripe about the content of a particular post the the beliefs of a particular poster, bring it up to Admin or Jim.

Kantian perspective

Interesting reading. The reading of the 'Kantian perspective' implies consent attained by dishonesty and coercion is ruled out as not viable through words in actual practice of language word usage, by persons, which all know is never the case otherwise rulers would never be able to utilize words to attain consent attained by dishonesty and coercion. Examples: hitler, obama, putin and assorted others throughout history prove the Kantian theory incorrect (imho). That is my understanding. Do you have another opinion?

The propaganda from BOTH sides is the work of fantasy.

This is the moral cowardice approach. An inability of people, especially liberaltarians, to take a stand after a fair evaluation of the evidence. Being lukewarm on this matter, after all we have seen, and dismissing both sides as equally fantastical, is simply unacceptable. There is no rational reason to remain on the fence at this point unless you are horribly uninformed.

It's still the policy of Free Republic that there will be no personal attacks.

The policy of Free Republic ought to only apply to actual human beings. Putinists are not human beings, therefore, mind your own business.

Heheheheh! I was being funny, not serious. I’m not sure about your take on Kantian theory. One would think that the existence of unethical people wouldn’t disprove the theory that would condemn them, if I am understanding you correctly. All those people do use others “merely” as a means, that is, by violating their autonomy. Though the classical Kantian view has all sorts of other problems, such as what to do with marginal persons.

So, according to you guys you don't have to follow the FR rules because the poster you attacked is a subhuman Putinista (as determined by you).

And I am suspect for calling you out on it?

Jim put the rule up for a reason and folks have generally followed it for years, sometimes after chastisement, sometimes because they're decent humans and follow the rules.

Again, if you have something against the content of a poster, or wish to impugn their motives, take it up with the Admin or Jim.

But respect Jim's rules and this site and refrain from personal attacks!
