They Went Looking For D.C.’s ‘Sketchy’ Neighborhoods. Guess What Happened Next.
The Blaze ^ | 8/11/2014 | Zach Noble

A WUSA-TV news van was burglarized in Washington, D.C., Friday while the news crew was interviewing locals nearby, the station reported.

The robbery happened as they were reporting about a “sketchy neighborhood” app.

The crew said they had locked their van in D.C.’s Petworth neighborhood, but someone popped the lock and absconded with “the gear of photojournalist James Hash, the backpack of reporter Mola Lenghi, and the purse of intern Taylor Bisciotti.”

The sketchiest spot in D.C. right now is 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Since the current occupant moved in the neighborhood has gone to the dogs. Along with the rest of our country.

guess they don't understand the premise of the app, it's to show what area to stay AWAY FROM... not go to

Well, gosh, I don’t know “what happened next” unless I fall for the Blaze “clickbait to make moolah and internet rankings”.

On my next visit to DC, I definitely want to eat at the Florida Avenue Grill, as well as Ben’s Chile Bowl on U Street NW.

Don’t look now but Trinidad is gentrifying too. Yea, verily, ‘n pretty fast. Capitol Hill has gotten pricey. H has turned into a happening street. The area between H and Florida/Gallaudet is hot. Trinidad is the next scootch north and it’s getting the spillover. I have two coworkers in Trinidad — 30’ish, white, female, single, and they love the neighborhood. Obviously still a work in progress, but the demographics are shifting with every sale.

"Trinidad comes to mind pretty quickly. Congress Heights. There's a whole lot of places that beat the crap out of Petworth on the sketchiness scale."

The worst is Capitol Hill. In the other neighborhoods, you may get robbed, carjacked, have your wallet picked or even be killed.

On Capitol Hill they will bleed out the entire substance of your being and steal your soul.

“I am guessing it’s a neighborhood overrun by Amish.”

With that totally asinine comment, I say boycott all things Alabama and especially all things crimson (bloody) tide.

If you can’t call a certain minority what ever they are (call a spade a spade, please), don’t call it. I have many Amish friends, and they would run circles around the likes of you.

Lighten up Francis,

We know the Amish are good peace loving people. This very same Amish joke (which is sarcasm) is used over and over on this site so get over it.

The whole District is sketchy. It’s just a matter of what kind of sketchiness.

Some folks just gotta go lift up the tiger’s lip to see if there really are sharp things in there.

You couldn’t put that scene in a movie nowadays, no matter how funny it was, even with the idiotic white family playing the foil.

One of the worst crimes of PC is ruining good comedy.

Don’t look now but Trinidad is gentrifying too.

You're talking about the same Trinidad where the cops used to check IDs of people going in because the drug trafficking was so rampant?

Wow. Things change.

Next thing you know, they'll have a white mayor in DC.

The same. I moved onto Capitol Hill over 30 years ago when people thought it was a reckless decision. I’ve had my share of urban adventures, but the Hill is a now-widely known gentrification success story. If you look closely at a map, you will see that greater Capitol Hill is essentially an island, with the river to the south and east, the New York Avenue/railroad corridor to the north, and the well-guarded Capitol complex and Mall sealing the “open” western boundary. From Union Station to the Anacostia, there are only two places to cross the railroad; the northern boundary might as well be another river. I’ve argued for years that the Hill, expanded, would gentrify out to those borders. This is now well underway. It’s too close in not to, given the traffic congestion in the burbs. Even Ivy City has new construction. As Trinidad flips, Ivy City can’t be far behind. Rosedale is flipping. The pocket up behind Spingarn and the Langston Golf Course (next to the Arboretum), as far as I know, isn’t gentrifying yet, but given its location, it’s only a matter of time.

It's a wonder anyone was allowed to report what happened.
Reminds me of a story. When I was a young cop working in Bedford-Stuyvesant a wild and crime ridden part of Brooklyn, a “social researcher” came into our station-house asking for an escort and security detail while he interviewed people living in the area. The desk Lieutenant told him to get lost. An hour later the boss called us in to “escort” him to the railroad station and “Put him on the train; he doesn't have any money now and don't leave until the train leaves with him on it!”

It seems this fool had gone into enemy territory anyway and when he was beaten and robbed he ran into an apartment building banged on a door and begged for help. He was then dragged inside beaten again and robbed of his watch which was missed by the first robbers. We never saw him again.
