Los Angeles is considering turning voting ballots into lottery tickets.
With fewer than a fourth of voters showing up for recent local elections, the city's Ethics Commission voted unanimously Thursday to recommend that the City Council consider a cash-prize drawing as an incentive to vote.
Commission President Nathan Hochman suggests the prizes could be $25,000 or $50,000, saying a pilot program should be used first to find out the number and size of prizes that would bump up turnout.
The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/1uV1Ekw) that federal law prohibits payment for voting, but Ethics Commissioner Jessica Levinson says that statute wouldn't apply to elections without federal races.
California law only prohibits money or gifts for votes for a particular candidate or measure, or to stay away from the polls.

Here in MA, unions can contribute to state office election campaigns, but businesses cannot.
And will prob be won by an illegal alien! lol
We can stress about low voter turnout. But I’m just as happy that low life types and low info voters don’t vote. If some people don’t follow the news don’t know who candidates are, don’t understand the issues in campaigns, then they should not be voting, in my opinion.

Illegal under CA law. An eating place offered free soft drinks on election day to anyone who showed them a ballot receipt. The promotion was shot down as illegal.
If the City wants to increase participation in municipal elections, why not have them coincide with presidential election years? The solution seems simple enough.

I agree. But the left is aware of all of this too (that these potential voters are low info) and they just don’t care. In fact, the less informed the better, so they can tell them what to believe by appealing to their emotions through race-baiting, class warfare, etc.
Since only the low life’s will fall for such a scheme then this will have the effect of having more uneducated democrats voting.

You can't expect the entire NFL, and cast of every Disney flim to vote every precinct every time, unless it's really important!
The more ballots you cast, the better you’re chances of winning.
I wonder how they’ll accommodate winning ballots cast by the deceased?
