Woke my daughter up in Dublin CA...
Good Hunting... from Varmint Al
Thus was the first quake in close to 20 years that actually shook me up a bit.
I grabbed by valuable camera..and went outside and listened to a few dogs barking.
Live very nearby. Almost all pictures fell off wall above fireplace. Crooked pictures everywhere. Spice rack fell off shelf in kitchen and broke.
Stuff fell off shelves around the house and in the garage.
Scared me right awake. The poor cat ran away terrified, ripping my arm open in a panic to get under a bed.
No wasn’t shot-misspelled cuss word.
It woke me up here in the Pleasanton / San Ramon area of the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. It woke up my daughter too, but not my wife, it seems. It didn’t feel like a 6.0 here, though. However, it was rolling and rocking back and forth for what felt like a long time, though. At least 15 seconds, maybe longer.
I glad it wasnt worse.
the other latest quakes in Chile and L.A.
I trust we wont have any stronger “aftershocks”
ahahah very good!
I’m glad too!
I was asleep on the couch right in the path of everything falling.
the few dogs barking ...was short lived.
all I know for sure was the shaking woke me up and I sleep pretty soundly
I’m in Fairfield and I SURE woke up. Worst one I felt since Loma Prieta. Where are you located?
You were a lot closer than me.
Im not ready to start the day at 4 am!
Im In central Marin..In San Anselmo.. a mile from San Rafael
the last time I felt a tremblor like that was Loma Preita
Fairfield’s considerably closer to the center than where I am
The 6.0 earthquake is pretty strong, especially since it happened only 10 km (6.2 miles) below the surface at the epicenter. According to the USGS web site, it occurred just under two miles west of Napa County Airport.
- It must be jelly because jam does not shake like that!
I live in V-town. This didn’t feel as bad as Loma Prieta(almost knocked me over)but more damage.
I watched the news in horror during Loma Prieta as the freeway collapsed on live television. OMG all those poor people.
Shook pretty good here in El Sobrante. All the old ceiling cracks are back, time to get out the mud....
Good Morning El Sobrante..
there doesnt appear to be any damage here...that I can see at 4 AM...
True enough, AmCan is within 10 miles of me here. Man, I was almost thrown out of bed. And it just kept on shaking! Felt like a good half minute or longer!
Good Morning Sacramento
I wish I was mored educated about things geological. but if you heard it ,,,you heard it.
Quite a few power outages in the area. Didn’t feel it here in the land of FR (190 miles South). http://www.pge.com/myhome/outages/outage/
Oh, I thought your computer keyboard was jiggling while you were typing (;
Good Morning Vallejo
I was driving in San Anslemo Marin County,.during the Loma Prieta Quake..stopped and tried to get on the FLOOR of my car..
Update 4 a.m.: KQED reporter Mina Kim lives in Napa, near the epicenter of this mornings earthquake. She said she experienced violent shaking. In her words, Everything came down from the walls. Our refrigerator moved across the kitchen. All the shelves came down. She said she and her husband turned off their gas and are assessing the damage. She also reported a fire is visible in the distance, though shes not sure whats burning.
Todd Smoot, a KCBS editor, came on the air to report a major power outage in large parts of the Sonoma Valley.
Good Morning Fresno
I’ll bet that are a few...snafus along the power grid!!
Vallejo? We just left there a couple years ago. Fairfield is a lot closer to my wife’s job. Still get my mail there, though. Been between there, here and Napa since ‘74. Gettin’ on time to leave California for good, though!!! The crazy lefties are too far outta control!
Maybe we north bay types oughtta get together for coffee sometime soon, though.

Ditto for Danville.
Wow. No damage here in Santa Rosa but my house moved for 20 seconds. (I always count lightning so I started to count right away.) some of that could have been house settling back down since were on pier and beam here.
Ipod with teeny keyboard and evil spellcheck. : )
Sounded like an explosion when I woke up. Running down the hall and screaming as all this stuff fell around me.
I was getting ready to go to work.
There may be more damage than expected because the epicenter was only 10 km (6.2 miles) beneath the surface. I wouldn’t be surprised that many retail stores near the epicenter—especially Napa and the American River Canyon section of Vallejo—may have collapsed shelving.
Update, 4:25 a.m.: KQEDs Craig Miller is touring the streets of Vallejo and says there are signs of emergency response in the areas hes seen damage to some building and sirens.
From KQEDs Scott Shafer: Cheri Hansen of the Napa County Sheriffs office says: Everythings upside down here. Things have flown out of the cabinets. My computer flew off the desk. We have power because we have a generator.
- Did the two “O’s” fall over on the HOLLYWOOD sign?
SJ Mercury News - PG&E reported severe outages in areas near Napa and Santa Rosa. Reports of downed power lines surfaced throughout the Bay Area. The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans are examining the major bridges but no closures have been ordered.
Many residents in the area near the epicenter reported some damage to their homes and sirens heard in the streets, but no major injuries or damage were immediately reported there or in outlying areas like San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose.
Just saw on KGO nooz the SR37 bridge overpass at SR29 at Sonomaa Blvd i Vallejo is very damaged.
Update 4:35 a.m.: From all the reports weve heard over the last hour-plus, its apparent that the worst of the damage from this mornings quake is focused in the city of Napa and surrounding communities.
Unconfirmed reports unconfirmed relayed by KCBS say theres been some road and possible bridge damage on Highway 12 in Napa and Highway 37 in Vallejo.
KCBS reporter Curtis Kim went on the air with a report that the CHP was closing one of the Highway 37 bridges in Vallejo. Were not sure from the report which bridge it is.

A guy posted this on the KCRA Sacramento station website:
Serious damage and collapsed structures in napa city. 100 calls backed up on the scanner for napa city with people trapped in collapsed structures per cal fire on the scanner. multiple injuries and multiple rescues. gas lines from vallejo, benetia, napa city broken as well as water mains. visible earth damage in places. Multiple OES strike teams dispatched to Napa city. Full buildings collapsed along with infrastructure. 100 calls for help pending in napa city. visible fault in places. CHP called in damage to state route 37. Napa city and American Canyon both damaged the worst of all. All the strike teams are headed for the cal fire napa city station.
Glad most of the folks in Napa probably home from work away from damage areas. Looks bad.
Vallejo FRiends, I heard the I-37 Bridge buckled from the quake and is closed. Anything to that?
I forgot there was so much residential downtown.
I hope everyone will be okay.
