CBC members push police czar idea (Congressional Black Caucus wants DoJ to run local departments)
The Politico ^ | August 25, 2014 | Lucy McCalmont

Posted on 08/25/2014 10:21:11 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Rep. Elijah Cummings, along with other members of the Congressional Black Caucus, sent a letter Monday to President Barack Obama, urging the administration to pursue changes to local law enforcement structure to “prevent more Fergusons,” including a federal czar to oversee local law enforcement.

“The administration must quickly establish a national commission to review existing police policies and practices,” the letter reads. “And identify the best policies and practices that can prevent more Fergusons and vastly improve policing in communities across the nation.”

In addition to the commission, the letter calls for the appointment of a federal czar within the Justice Department to monitor and oversee local police departments that receive federal funding.

Besides Cummings, a Maryland Democrat, Democratic Reps. Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Steven Horsford of Nevada, John Lewis of Georgia, Gwen Moore of Wisconsin and Barbara Lee of Texas signed the letter, as well as AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and actress Cynthia Nixon.

The letter comes the same day as the funeral for 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot and killed Aug. 9 by a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer. The letter says Brown “is only the latest in a long list of black men and boys who have died under eerily similar circumstances.”

“The pattern is too obvious to be a coincidence and too frequent to be a mistake,” the letter reads, while acknowledging that many facts regarding Brown’s death are still unclear.

The letter notes both “systemic racial bias” and the militarization of police departments as “dangerous trends” and outlines a number of actions for the administration to address, including racial bias training for every local police department under guidelines set by the Justice Department. It also calls upon the Justice Department to set and implement national standards for investigations when police shoot unarmed victims as well as to set, implement and monitor diversity hiring and retention. The letter urges the administration to suspend programs that provide local police with military equipment while authorizing support under existing grants to foster more engagement between local law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.

Such a thing coming to pass would be without exception a line that if crossed would necessitate Revolution.

I believe that’s the whole goal. This administration and it’s allies everywhere are systematically pushing every button, every cockamamie idea, repugnant program, regulation and law. In the hopes that someone, somewhere in the country will flip out in such a way that the Press can manipulate it into a roaring bonfire that the ‘government’ just had to step in and declare martial law to ‘protect’ us.

And if that doesn’t work they’ll still gain total control over us through the new laws and regulations. So as far as they are concerned it’s win/win.

Why do you think that Obama has been giving them [the police] al these military toys and grant money? At some point in time the feds will say, “come join us or give us our toys and money back”.

"A federal police czar would prevent future incidents like Ferguson...? I’d like to ask these blockheads how would that work in real life and not in their fantasy world...."

Well, they have Zimbabwe as a model.

The issues in Ferguson and virtually every other inner city ‘hood are due to the fact that the only community activity the people participate in is to go vote themselves a share of the public pie, and that means voting Democrat every four years. If they would turn out and vote for City Council and go to Town Council Meetings, they wouldn’t have 50 of 53 police officers that are white in an all black neighborhood.

It’s so much easier to cash the checks and burn a few buildings down when someone snitches.

More like the Communist Black Caucus. I cannot imagine Americans accepting czars fifty years ago.

Too many American intellectuals lack any historical or geopolitical perspective. They all look elsewhere for utopia. America is the best there ever was and will be. We don’t have a national government, we have a federal one.

That most basic and critical distinction is lost on most Americans. We’re not Mexico.

The federalization of local police and law enforcement, although it flies in the face of the constitution, would be catnip to our would-be emperor, Obama, and his dumb thug AG.

So they literally want a police state?.....

They don’t care what it is as long as they are in charge.

Holder and Jarrett LOVE this idea.

A police state... for the people, of course.

Well, we know that Obama wanted his Civilian Security Force, so this would be a way to do it.

Funny, though, these idiot CBC members never stop to ask themselves how they will like the DOJ running local police forces when the EVIL RACIST REPUBLICANS are running Congress and the Executive Branch.

There is no Constitutional authorization for the Federal Government to micromanage State or Local law enforcement. Period. End. Of. Story.

If they want Zimbabwe, then move there, permanently.

It'd at least be one use of my tax dollars I could approve of.

It also calls upon the Justice Department to set and implement national standards for investigations when police shoot unarmed victims

Considering nearly twice as many people are killed with hands and feet every year as rifles, I'm not sure that fellow could be considered "unarmed". They make him sound like a poor, helpless waif, when in fact he was over 6 feet tall, nearly 300 lbs, and no stranger to using force to get his way.

Someone is putting a high shine on a fece again.

“In addition to the commission, the letter calls for the appointment of a federal czar within the Justice Department to monitor and oversee local police departments that receive federal funding. “

This is blatant federalization of local police forces.

This is what happens when money is accepted from the federal government. Just ask the school districts.

“I have a feeling this plan has been sitting in a file cabinet waiting for just such an occasion.”

BINGO! WE HAVE A WINNER!

Now, that Obama has militarized the police forces of America, he has the civilian army he wanted and now the opportunity has arisen to give it an “illegitimate” leader to head it.

It was only a matter of time.
