Obama became president on January 20, 2009, the war in Iraq was essentially won. The al Qaeda-backed insurgency was reduced to smoldering embers. George W. Bush’s surge had succeeded.
Safely behind bars at the time was Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, an al Qaeda-linked point man who was imprisoned at Camp Bucca in Iraq, after being captured by U.S. forces in 2005.
However, the Obama administration decided to shut down the Bucca prison camp and hand over its prisoners to the Iraqi government, including Abu Bakr al Baghdadi, in 2009. The Iraqi government later released him. Al Baghadi boasted to the U.S. soldiers who had held him prisoner, “I’ll see you in New York.”
Abu Bakr al Baghdadi has re-emerged to become the leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

I think this should be verifiable, to find out what really happened.
But considering that just recently Obama released some of the worst terrorists from Gitmo in exchange for a US traitor -- having negotiated with terrorists, it wouldn't surprise me at all.
Please don’t refer to the Islamic State as ISIS or ISIL.
They are terms used by the White House and other collaborators to obfuscate the Islamic foundation of the Islamic State.
When dictators in Burma and Congo changed their national names to Myanmar and Zaire, news editors followed suit. So why are we still calling the Islamic State ISIS, which sounds like a character in a comic book, or ISIL, which sounds like a medication? They call themselves the Islamic State, and so should we.
Even here on Free Republic, we should be trying to shift the discussion meme. If TV and radio talkers read The Islamic State, they will use the correct words on TV and radio.
If the Islamic State is too much trouble to type out each time, how about use it for the first reference, and IS thereafter? Words and definitions matter. If we can’t even name our enemy, out of fear, then we are doomed to be defeated by a far more implacable foe.

The “Islamic State” is a terrorist organization with incredible resources and is taking over the ME for now, with ambitions for the whole world.
I guess even Free Republic doesn’t want a wide distribution of the news and for people to see and know that the Leader of the Islamic State was in US custody and was released under Obama’s watch because as soon as I posted it in news and frontpage, it was immediately removed from those sections.

What is interesting is there is nothing to verify Abu being out and participating with ISIS from 2005-2009. So the story about him being released in 2004 sounds like a load of crap put out by the state department. Even WIKI, which is not moderated, can’t fully account for his whereabouts from 2006 to 2009. So i’d say he was in custody, and the state department is trying once again to pin this on Bush. Out most transparent ever administration is the most corrupt administration ever
