A bill allowing family members to ask a judge to order firearms removed from people likely to commit gun violence advanced in California on Wednesday, one of several gun control measures up for votes in the last week of the state's legislative session.
The measure was introduced after police near Santa Barbara said they were unable to confiscate weapons from a man who later went on a rampage and killed six people, despite concern from his family that he was in poor mental health and might become violent.
The bill passed the senate 23-8. It passed the assembly once, but now goes back for a vote on amendments before heading to Democratic Governor Jerry Brown.
If Brown, who has steered a centrist course on gun control legislation, signs the bill, California would be the first U.S. state to enact such a law.
"Nothing can bring back the life of my son, but there are common-sense solutions that can help ensure other loved ones aren't killed by preventable gun violence," said Richard Martinez, whose son, Christopher Ross Michaels-Martinez, was killed by 22-year-old Elliott Rodger in the rampage in Isla Vista in May....

The Land of Fruits and Nuts lives up to its political connotations once more. I doubt we need to repost Solzhenitsyn’s warning.
Good enough reason to move out.
No doubt they figure those who fit the bill are all the same Christian Caucasians that cling to their guns and their God. You can bet money they aren't planning to take guns away from those who agree with Caliph Obama that the Iz Lame call to prayers is the most beautiful sound in the world.
Wow, where did they get the Pre-cogs? They are kinda rare.
That along with a sky-rocketing gas tax announced this week should send people fleeing the state.
“...to order firearms removed from people likely to commit gun violence...”
Boy! Am I glad to be living in Texas for I am one of those who would certainly be one of their targets for I am not “just likely” to commit “gun violence” but I would in a heartbeat if the armed revolution in our country ever was required to save our country to either restore our original Constitutional system or to secede from the rotten carcass of what once used to be the United States of America.
I come from an older generation that is far, far removed from what it is today. I’ve actually lived through the glory days of America while the new generation has no idea of what actual freedom and liberty really is.
Look for this to be struck down in a court of law.
Yep, this WILL land up in the USSC, count on it.
Look for Californistan to secede from the union if it is.
Every family has a liberal...Who is now empowered to disarm the conservative family members with just a phone call to the cops.
There was talk about that state breaking into six smaller states.
e to “DH”..........
Your comment: “I come from an older generation that is far, far removed from what it is today. Ive actually lived through the glory days of America while the new generation has no idea of what actual freedom and liberty really is.”.......
Same here brother and I will “take up arms” right beside you when the shtf.
....And that same conservative can simply move out. This law I predict will go down in flames via a fed court decision.
..............and just suppose you have a sister (or brother) who disagrees withy your politics????
Bye, bye your guns—AND DON’T THINK YOU WILL EVER GET THEM BACK!!
I’m sure nobody’s ex spouse would EVER abuse this.
