At least four hostages held in Syria by the Islamic State, including an American journalist who was recently executed by the group, were waterboarded in the early part of their captivity, according to people familiar with the treatment of the kidnapped Westerners.
James Foley was among the four who were waterboarded several times by Islamic State militants who appeared to model the technique on the CIAs use of waterboarding to interrogate suspected terrorists after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
The victims of waterboarding are often strapped down on gurneys or benches while cold water is poured over a cloth covering their faces; they suffer the sensation of feeling they are drowning. The wet cloth creates a barrier through which it is difficult or in some cases not possible to breathe, according to a May 2005 Justice Department memo on the CIAs use of the technique.
President Obama has condemned waterboarding as torture.
They knew exactly how it was done, said a person with direct knowledge of what happened to the hostages.

Now they’re in deep doo doo.
Well, maybe now we can get Obama to say that it isn’t really torture-torture.
The liberals heads will explode over this news!
Only if they force their prisoners to wear panties on their head.
This is why, after you waterboard and get your intelligence, you summarily execute unlawful combatants in the field. I guess our West Point geniuses forgot the second step.
WOW...The ACLU will be all over this...
They knew exactly how it was done,
Anyone with internet access knows how its done Einstein.
Uuuuuummmmmm, Nazi Pelousy will be ssssooooo pissed at you guy’s — She will convene a congressional hearing.
I never realized how far back we quit executing folks who really needed killing, until I watched some WWII documentaries. Way too many murdering Nazis skated or got off with light sentences.
They knew exactly how it was done,
Well, they did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Well at least they weren’t totured.
Never underestimate the hypocrisy of the left...
Of course, they’ll say that it’s OK for the Islamists to waterboard, or to do ANYTHING, because they’re the “underdog” in the world.
Do ya think there will be media outrage over this? Nah. Can’t blame it on Bush.
Thank goodness,we don’t do torture and just release them!
Beheading? Meh. its just how Muslims do things.
Waterboarding? OMG! George Bush is to blame!
Read the entire article, and didn’t see any backup information to support “....according to people familiar with the treatment of the kidnapped Westerners.”
Therefore no credibility with me.
Waaterboarding and Mock Executions are mainstays of the SERE of old.
I've scoured the internet and have not been able to find an accurate representation of real waterboarding.
And I have been on a waterboard and know how it works.
Dramatic Liberal equivocations... yawn.
The UN will be over this in a shot, oh wait
Some private contractors would probably sell training for it to anyone.
All Bush’s fault. If only they would have stuck to video’d beheadings, everything would have been kosher vyosher. But nooooooo! The West set a bad example. Bad West. Bad. Bad./s
The big difference is that the terrorists waterboarded and beheaded innocent people.
Ever hear of “Aquaplaning”?
Obama has no problem with Muslims waterboarding people.
And if America doesn't do it, the rest of the barbarians will respect that...uh-huh.
Where do we come up with these doofus elected officials?? To be "fair and balanced" IIRC, John McCain also publically denounces the use of waterboarding.
> President Obama has condemned waterboarding as torture.
And of course, the CIA will be blamed as having trained ISIS, and — oh wait! Some a-holes have already done that, repeatedly.
It’s strange to have the press critical of our enemies. Usually those are the people they side with...
It’s been done for thousands of years. The CIA just did it safely.
